Seriously? A 94 is great! Don’t be disappointed…

Yeah, I never thought I would be one of those kids who complained about high grades and it’s not like I complain, I’m just kind of disappointed. Of course, the only place I can admit it is here because anywhere else people would just call me some crazy try hard.

Science is like my worst subject and I have not gotten an A on any tests this year. In fact, the 86 that I received on the last test was the highest I’ve gotten so far. The only things keeping me in the 90 range are my classwork, projects, homework, etc.

I definitely see where you’re coming from. Especially with the test thing. Same thing happened with my Geometry class last year (depending on homework and stuff).

At least it’s not like the kid who was upset because he got a 99.5% on a test.

Lol I have yet to encounter those types of people. Thank god.

How are you guys’ math classes. I did pretty good in Algebra last year, but I’m struggling with honors geometry this year. It sucks that I have to actually study.

^My Geometry class is by far my easiest class. And I’m not a math person, either…

I had a little bit of a rough first two weeks, but it’s been a month and it’s settled into more of a routine. I’m still definitely not in love with my high school, since it’s nowhere as rigourous I’d like, but I can imagine myself surviving until graduation.

I’m actually quite surprised at how nice the people at school are- not just fellow freshmen but upperclassmen, too. They might not be the brightest and the best, but they hold doors open for you, haha.

Question for y’all: how easy is it to start a club/group/organization at your school? I’m attempting to do that for a competition team at mine, and nobody (especially not a freshman) does that very often.

My math class is going great. It’s good to be back to algebra. Hated geometry. I’ve got a 97 in that class so I’m content.

I actually really like my school. I truly believe that we’re the best public high school in the state. The school has gorgeous architecture, awesome facilities, offers AP and IB, and everyone here has so much school spirit. I love it. As usual, we’re an underfunded public school and that kind of sucks for academic clubs that compete (for example, I’m in debate and we don’t even have a coach) but we make do. It’s a really diverse school - probably at least 60% of the population is low income or a minority. The upperclassmen are super nice and always willing to offer advice or help out.

I don’t really know how hard it is to start a club. We have a few inactive clubs that I plan to revitalize though. :D

I hate my math teacher. He gets off topic wayyy to much. Like sometimes, he’ll be writing a question on the board and he’ll ask if we’ve seen the latest episode of “…” precalc isn’t that hard, but he just makes it so confusing.

Back again, finished a couple of papers today, and two more weeks of finals to go.

For Math, we do some sort of “spiral approach” here, meaning we do a mishmash of geometry and algebra every year. This year - 8th - wasn’t really hard, we started with indices, partial fractions, functions and graphing, did circles, a bit of trig, and a bunch of other stuff. The math teacher is okay and I don’t do the homework at all - don’t think I’ll be able to get away with that next year though - 9th Grade is supposed to bring this great jump in math standard. And if I get into the advanced Math class for next year it’d be even more hardcore.

Is anybody here going to do Math Olympiad? Like AMC and stuff? Each year I vow to practice but never got round to doing it, hoping next year I actually would try - if I have time, that is. 9th grade is supposed to be the hardest year ever here (in our 7-10 school). Everybody starts sleeping in class all the time and it gets pretty bad, I’ve heard. Quite apprehensive about it but I guess I should worry about the finals first.

My math class is really easy since I’m in regular Algebra, not Honors. God, I don’t even want to think about how I’d be doing right now if I had stayed in Honors. D:

OPPAN GANGNAM STYLE

koreanpride

lololol… apparently, I have the highest number of AP classes in my grade at my high school, so a lot of people are like, why you so smart… but at another high school in my city, the highest number in my grade has 2 or 3 more AP Classes than me. So. Yeah. AP classes aren’t everything. And I’m one of the dumbest kids in my classes. :|

@BurningIce: haha same… I’m not particularly good at math (I scored a in the 90’s on last AMC10 exam in 8th grade… everybody scored higher…). I’m focused on my classes, but hopefully I’ll have the winter break to cram in more AMC stuff.

This year (8th Grade) I took AMC 10 and broke the 100 mark (barely), but didn’t score enough for AIME. Kinda angry at myself though because I got Q2 and another super easy question wrong due to carelessness (and sleepiness) and I’d probably have made it (or be close to making it) with those precious 12 marks!

Anyway the way secondary school works here is that we don’t have APs or Honors and don’t stream much, but our schools are streamed. Like, we have this national primary school leaving exam that everybody takes and you apply to schools based on your score, so basically our schools are streamed but our classes not really? Haha it’s complicated - but next year in grade 9 we’re given our only chance for “streamed” classes for particular subjects - but those are super hard to get into, and the curriculum goes super fast, and you’re only allowed to take two max, and if you take two people think you’re pretty crazy. Music’s one of the scariest advanced class, there’s only like 2 or 3 pupils in that class and you get (college) sophomore standing in some conservatory after finishing the program (after 10th grade). Idk I think my school’s too focused on grooming these tippy toppy talents and the rest of us who are pretty good actually, but not thaaat good, are left to wander around on our own.

School is good for me. Its been a month and I:
-Got a club started
-It is called H.O.P.E (Helping Other People with Engineering) and we actually have started
doing crazy cool things

-My geometry teacher hates me for taking Algebra 2
-She’s my Math Team coach.
-A very similar situation happened in middle school…and elementary school…

-I set a Guinness World Record

-I have the highest ever Spanish 2 grade in our school (137.3)

-I have 3 AP’s in school (All humanities, but I LIKE IT!)

However, my mom called TASS and LEAD non-prestigious and I am getting a 90 (3.7) in Geometry and my school is insane (ly awesome/crazy

Is a 2016 and currently dreams of getting into Stanford :)

I enjoy school but it’s hard to work due to other students not living up to their part of the job. In my honors classes I want to focus solely on the school work but its like some social scene and nothing gets done…

So I started looking at secondary schools just for learning more and more serious classes.

Me too @forevercool

I feel like I have been running like a machine that is about to run out. Ever since school started, it’s been school, homework, golf/ marching band, and then sleep. Every day. I keep telling myself that it’ll be easier in a while, but it never gets easier. I’ve already forgotten to do my homework twice which I have never done before. Anyways, my friend is bragging to me that she will be ‘super’ busy in a few weeks…if you count going home at six every day ‘super’ busy. I get home at 8 with none of my homework done.

My fall break has finally begun. Praise the lord. Two weeks of no school? Hell yeah!!

Starting Monday is Spirit Week!!!

Ooh, what spirit days do you have?
