@imscared It doesn’t give you any advantage as the college credit missed from not having a “senior year” would just be done at your college. Don’t do it if you like your high school.

Le October:
Hello CC 2016’ers,

Hope you are having a nice October. School is really kicking in, but it is going well overall. Life is really fun, and all-nighters have been pulled, but I am stressing about self-studying AP’s with my courseload and stuff. Hope all is well for you.

Hello Apollo. :)

Hope you’re having a nice October. School’s been fine, thanks for asking. I have completed my first quarter with straight A’s and as of so far no all-nights have been pulled. Currently on break, whoo! Don’t forget to take a little time for yourself. Life doesn’t ever slow down but sometimes you need to. Hope all’s well.

8 more days of finals to go! And seeing how I’m cramming meetings/outings/etc with friends into the 3 marking days where we don’t have school that follow, it seems I’d be busier then than during finals haha.

Anyway I haven’t really decided when I should apply to university. When I schooled in the US, 2016 was my proper graduating class, but here we have a Jan - Dec school year so I’m not sure if I should skip taking A Levels by 2-3 months (they’re in October/November) and apply with 2016, or have like 9 months after my As free - I might want to do grad school so I’d be quite old when I’m done with everything. The thing is that the extra 9 months would be like a gap year and allow me to volunteer and work a bit, plus I take the As which might give credit depending on the university. However, I’m not sure if it’d be worth it being one class behind. Also, application period would coincide with A Levels which isn’t that great either. Ah well.

Also, wondering any tips for staying awake in class? Haha I used to be quite good at that, and coffee helped, but for a few months now I’ve been having problems staying awake. And also having problems sleeping at night - it’s weird because I can’t sleep for one night, and then the next night I worry about not sleeping so I can’t sleep. Ah well for now I survive by taking a 1h-nap after school everyday, so I don’t crash/get sick/die.

My procrastination finally caught up with me. I pulled an all nighter because of the projects I had due

^Better luck next time. I’ve never pulled an all-nighter so until I do the toxic habit continues. :)

Apollo11, You say you’re club helps people with technology. How? I don’t understand how a Wii, SQUARE, etc can better your community. What kind of things do you do? Also, I ****ING HATE MY SCHOOL. Everyone says that compared to other high schools in my state and in the country, the teachers at my school give a crazy amount of homework. My school itself is pretty good, but I wanna get to doing what I love (engineering) as fast as I can. what can I say, im enthusiastic.

So tired…

How many of y’all are taking the PSAT

I’m taking the PSAT…any tips for critical reading? I’m scoring low on that in prep…

I took the PSAT last October. Not planning on taking it this year.

Today was much better than yesterday. I tried to actively participate in my classes, and I think I did a good job doing that. Also we got back our English tests today, and my teacher wrote on mine something along the lines of, “I love your responses. I’d really like to see you contribute in class more.” It really motivated me, so we’ll see what unfolds. On top of that my Bio teacher who is in charge of the Science Olympiad at my school said that if any freshman get on the team, I’ll probably be one of them. I’m still a little nervous about how my test is gonna bring down my geometry grade, but I guess I can’t dwell on that. Just gotta focus on the positives and prepare better next time.

^That sounds good! Stepping up to the plate!

I can’t take the PSAT until next year.

Im not sure, but my Critical Reading is my best (though i hate it the most)
I always feel like Writing Skills is east, but its always my lowest score. I think
I run out of momentum as my test goes on.

Since some of you guys have already taken it…did anybody use their graphing calculator on the PSAT? I don’t have one, so I was considering taking a normal calculator because the information packet recommends not to buy something new for the test. Is it necessary?

I’ve already taken them three times. Each time, I used a scientific calculator and I was just fine. Nothing on the test is too complex.

And in terms of critical reading, read quickly, but efficiently and if you can, take notes on what you’re reading in the margins.

So… How’s life, guys?

Hey guys!!! I haven’t replied to this thread in a long time.

So this week, I got a minor detention for having my phone ring during Chemistry class. It was awful; my phone got confiscated, all of that stuff.

My grades are mediocre right now. I have As in all my classes except for Chemistry Honors which I have a B+ in right now (ughh.) It’s also embarrassing that I have A-s in my non-honors, required classes (classes that aren’t leveled): Theology, Health, and Phys Ed. initially I didn’t care about them/put no effort… this is seriously going to ruin my class rank D:<

Oh, and I might create a Science Olympiads club next year too (sophomore year). Do you guys have any suggestions on how to start such a club? I have a bunch of friends (sophomores, juniors, etc) who I know would consider joining such a club. And I’m also pretty friendly with the head of the science department at my school.

That kinda sucks. Did you parents have to come pick up your phone?

About your grades, do you still have time to bring them up? My gradebook’s closed and I’m currently on break, so I don’t know about you.

I actually have no idea on how to start a club. I think it’s basically you have to have a teacher who’s willing to sponsor and then at least 8 people or something who want to be in it.

So how does your school calculate GPA? At mine, as long as you have an A (90-100), then you get 4 points. Which leaves a pretty big margin for error. :)

Two more days of finals to go here.

Here >80 would be A+ / 4.0.
70-79 would be A / 3.6.
65-69 is B+/3.2.
60-64 is B/2.8.
55-59 is C+/2.4.
etc.
I guess you would expect most people to get a perfect 4.0 here with the grading, but our average is actually a 3.4-3.5ish. Meaning people usually get low 70s average for their subjects on average. And getting 90+ is extremely good. 95+ is virtually unheard of, even for students who top that subject. Our classes aren’t that difficult - but then we take a lot of subjects. If I get into all that I apply for, I’ll be doing 13 classes next year! Haha it’s really different here, and I wish we could have a block schedule with 4 classes at once! (:

And for starting a club, it varies from school to school but here basically we have to get the interest of a teacher. They have to endorse and agree to mentor you, then you write a proposal and there’s a minimum number of students to start it too.

Thanks for the responses, y’all. Just walked home, barefooted and dressuited, from meeting with practically the whole entire social studies department at my school… all in the name of starting a club.

Has everyone been having such an interesting day? ;)
