sg12909:
I like your ambition, but I want to play Devil’s Advocate. Here is my two cents.

AP World history: within reach, but your expository writing ought to be good to very good entering the course. But Freshman/Soph year is a good time to take the course.

AP bio: I not a fan of taking bio before chem and physics. Why not an honors chem course and/or honors physics. Opportunity cost is high. Also I think AP Bio is so language ladened that it might be better left for when you are a junior. sg19209 two years older will likely enjoy AP more than a 9th grade sg19209.

AP language. Even more than with bio, no need whatsoever to rush language. Language mastery comes from living life. Substitute more math, sci, history, or comp sci…or an extracurricular.

AP Chinese: Go for it! :)

Honors Precal as a 9th grader: Solid. Did you do the Honors Geometry at OHS/EPGY? Make sure you have a rigorous geometry course before PreCalc…not because you cannot do a great job with an honors precalc course, but because it is a great disciplinary course that together with PreCalc will make AP Calculus a really fun course.

Thanks for the advice, TigerFree. The reason I want to take the courses is because I’ve done the prerequisite courses (Honors Chem, Geometry, Algebra II). Ironically, when I showed the counselor my SAT 2240 and ACT 33, she barely looked at them. To my fellow 8th graders, they are pretty useless so don’t worry about them for another few years.

@daphdaph- welcome to CC! Nice to meet you too.

Lol, you Nevada kids…with your Center for Exceptional Talent and National Mathcounts…

I was like you guys once. Of course I missed CET by 30 points on my Math, and missed Nationals [CT States are crazy!].

You make me both proud of the CC 2017 class and very disappointing in myself. Anyway, you guys should also try to be more well rounded. You all seem to be mostly STEM biased, so try adding in some National History Day and Model UN/Debate stuff. I did, as well as several other mathletes, and have done ** very** well.

BTW I have a thread about awards that you guys can win as well as their relative ranking out of ten. So basically, you can PM me with any competition/award based questions.

@Apollo11: Thanks for the advice! On the contrary, I am biased towards the Humanities. STEM topics make me nauseous. However, I should definitely try and be more well-rounded. :)

@Narhwale: I agree. Everyone here makes me look like the soggy piece of gum you’ve squashed with your Converse high tops at least twice as your math teacher yaps on and on about completing the square. I am such a fail compared to my fellow '17ers.
