High School Class of 2017

@Elaina CTY has some pretty good summer camps, both residential and online. I really wanted to go to the residential this year, but I had a scheduling conflict ;(
They do cost a lot (in the thousands) but they offer scholarships.

Both my parents are in the medical field, but I would never want to go into the medical field. Vivid conversations about colonoscopies and old people diseases at the dinner table have scarred me forever :p

Where do you want to go for college? My parents went to USC.

Oh wow, those dinner conversations sound fun! (,: what do your parents do in the med field?

I made a spreadsheet with about 30 colleges that I like. I’m going to narrow them down and visit them in a year or two! Obviously, I’m not going to list all 30 but once I narrow it down I will list them on here.

Thanks for the summer program suggestion!!

My dad’s in general aka old people medicine, and my mom’s a nurse and works with the army
My dream school is Stanford, but I’d like to learn more about the programs they offer. I visited the campus twice; it’s really beautiful.

Stanford is definitely on my list and is not getting taken off :D

A couple posts back you said you were going to go to the CTY residential summer program? Does that mean you have taken the SAT/ACT already (I noticed the eligibility requirements included a standardized test score)?

I was planning to go to the residential program, but I had to cancel :(

I did take the SAT and ACT last January. I’ve actually done so since 6th grade (asian parents xD). Don’t worry about the eligibility requirements, they’re not too hard. All you have to do is check the option to send scores, and you’re set.

Well, it seems like you’re well on your way to Stanford!!

It will be my first time taking the SAT. However, the requirements for the program I was looking at (a science one) only looks at the math score, so I think I can do it :)

Cool! Good luck! When are you taking it? Maybe we can study together

I did best on the Critical Reading section and my Math score dropped 20 points from when I last took it in seventh, so I should get to work once I decide on a test date. I want a 2300!!

I’m taking it December 7th (I believe that’s the December date). :D

Wow! A 2300, that’s an awesome goal! Good luck.

What do you do to study? Do far all I’ve been working on are practice tests and reading the blue book.

I was lazy and only took two full practice tests, but I worked through the Kaplan and BB.

My score breakdown was 770/710/760, so if I can get that math score over 750 and get a 10 essay (and maybe a perfect writing score?), I should be able to reach it!
Are you gonna take the ACT too?

Do you recommend Kaplan? Did it give you anything more?

I probably will take the ACT later during high school, but I only have a few months before the SAT so I want to focus on that for now!

By the way, those are really good scores for our age!

Thanks! :)

Some people say Kaplan’s too simple, but I liked the direct approach. Princeton is a good book too, and has even more practice tests. Barrons is highly recommended as well. It didn’t work for me personally though.

Are you just focusing on the math section, or are you aiming for a high composite?

I’ll finish the BB and then look into more options later (:

I’m going to focus on the math section mainly, but a high score on the other sections would be nice as well!

Sounds like a good idea, what scores are you aiming for?

I’m hoping for 680+ math, 670+ cr, and the other section I’m not too sure about yet. :)

Cool. I’ll probably studying in October and take it in Jan or Feb (after finals).

On another note, is anyone traveling this summer?

^^ Yup, LA.

Wow it’s been a long time since I’ve been on HSL and I see this thread has gone up to 457 posts. That’s pretty impressive [talkative] guys! …Even considering a lot of the posts aren’t from people belonging to the HS Class of 2017 haha.

It’s because we love the na

@sg12909 2240?! I’m also a 17er, and the highest I’ve ever been able to get was a 2020. But then I took the SAT for real and got a 1940. U crazy.

I’m going to Alaska on a cruise! I leave in 2 days :D

@yakisoba your score is pretty good, too!
