I think great classes and teachers are part of what helps you push through the school year. My school is on A/B schedule so they’re definitely days where I’m dreading school in general because of a certain class I don’t like.

@iloveyou

Thanks for the advice! Don’t worry I have never talked to people I don’t know. I rarely raise my hand in class(I’m pretty much silent all day unless my friends are around)

@Elaina

Welcome back! I’m glad to hear you had an awesome time and I hope my experience is just as good as yours when I start next week :)

@letmesee exactly!!

@sciencekid thanks! I hope your first day is AMAZING, just like mine :D

Thank you Elaina! We should all update your High School status on this thread and maybe we can help if one of us needs it :)

I’m Class of 2016. Honestly, if you’ve only been in high school for a day, you can’t really say it isn’t all that bad yet. The worst part, for me anyways, was being at the bottom of the totem pole. The upperclassmen treated us like we were babies.

You can’t really say that. Every high school environment is different, and based off of Elaina’s experience, I’d sat that she’s in a good school. Also, notice she implied that it was her first day, and didn’t conclude that all of High School was going to be great.
Now, that theory would only truly be proven perspective wise if I go through what you just said next week on my first day. I doubt it; and no, the simple fact that I have the principal I once had in 6th grade, your statement is to be least expected in terms of me.

@elaina welcome back!

Just finished the first week. Most classes are pretty good, although someone from AP Lang says they’re gonna transfer out because they hate the teacher.

How much sleep are you guys getting? Only about seven house for me AND I’m training hard so I became a zombie by Friday.

@sciencekid your name should have been debatekid.

@sg thanks!

I’m so with you. I’m only getting about 6 hrs a night & with 2 hours of training a night I’ll be sleepwalking pretty soon. I need to go to sleep earlier!

@Sg

Lol! XD I guess I can get a little serious at times
Oh, and to answer you question; I don’t get as much sleep because its still summer and I stay up at night. Sometimes unintentionally, lol.

Oh my goodness… I just got home and opened up my mail. This is going to make a big impact on the College Application :D

Second day was great as well! Got some actual homework tonight, and I befriended my math teacher as we same a similar interest: skiing, so that was great. Also, in my case, the upperclassmen don’t really talk to us, and we dont talk to them, although the ones I have talked to have been super nice and welcoming. There are of course a few who just call us “fresh meat”, but I assume thats normal.
@ScienceKid What was in the mail? :D

@ivy

That’s really good to hear! XD getting to know you teachers more can help in the future when it comes to recommendations for college.Lol “fresh meat”; what a silly metaphor :D

In the mail was an invitation to the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in recognition of my leadership and academic abilities. I’m so excited; and it starts the summer of 2014. It’s a good start to my college application. Though I don’t know if I’ll be able to participate because my parents have to throughly read it ( there’s some money involved) but yeah, I like it.

@Science
Wow! That sounds like a great opportunity! Hopefully your parents will allow you to do it, it would look good on a college application lol. How did you get involved in that? Did you yourself enroll or is it more of a nomination thing? It would be cool if it was a nomination thing, it means your peers or teachers think really highly of you, but either way it sounds like something you should defiantly try and do! :)

Lol, your right with that! I still have a few years to worry about recommendations though! Yeah, I don’t know if it’s just common here to be called fresh meat, because a lot of upperclassmen or kids older than me say its normal and I shouldn’t be concerned about it, but it is pretty silly. Also, today I had my first Free the Children meeting. I have to write a paragraph to the teacher who runs it on why I should get a ticket to We Day and what I can contribute to the group. Kinda stressing out about that because I want to sound unique and also don’t want to be the kind of person who makes general things on what they will contribute (i.e “I will help plan and organize events, create some of my own, blah blah blah.”) I really want to stand out. Sigh, only week one and i’m stressed lol.

Cool! Where is it?

I’m hoping to go to Johns Hopkins for a ceremony-thing in October- depends on whether my parents can get off work.

@■■■■■■■■ today was my second day too! I have actual homework.

I have to memorize all the worlds countries by Monday and I have to do some super simple math.

@science Not to burst your bubble, but I’ve heard that those letters go out to thousands of people. It’s a sales pitch. The New York Times did an article on it. :(

@Ivy
Thanks! I just got back from that and my parents said yes! So i’ll be able to attend it next summer. Yeah, it was a nomination thing; I never expected it because it was a teacher that I’ve never had in my 3 years of middle school and she recongised me. I just wanna hug her and tell her how grateful I am ^_^

That club you’re in sounds like a big deal, and it’ll definetely benefit you, when you start organizations and fundraisers. Lol, you talking about all that work you have really makes me wonder about how my experience will be when I participate in 3 clubs O_O. Don’t stress out so much, though the work may seem redundant; I know you can pull through. Your personality says so :)

@Elaina
Really? I can see what you mean too. Meeting the deadlines are crucial because if you don’t submit the application on time they pay you $2,000… Thats really ridiculous, and its held in multiple places nationwide from the grades of 6-9 so thats alot of people, but not within one area. I believe there’re 5-10 locations nationwide. 1,00 of those handed out in total ranging from those grades. Chances seem slim just about XD

I just read up on it… There are alot of posts on this website that say its a scam and parents can’t make contact; nor make requests pertaining to their childeren about medical advice. Though these posts were 4-5 years ago, i’m still kinda worried on how this will actually go Does it depend on the site?

Forget it, i’m not going. Elaina THANK YOU SO MUCH MUCH. I just did my research and i’m finding tons of articles - including the one from New York Times stating how unreliable this “opportunity” is. They totally contradict what they’re promoting, as seen in the various posts that I have read from parents- It’s terrible.

^ you’re welcome! I’m sorry it didn’t turn out like you wanted it to.

It’s ok I know I made good marks so it doesn’t bother me; though it’s sad to see what a poor experience it is when you experience it… Overly priced, overly exaggerated, no standards or requirements are necessary making it all the more suspecious… I feel so bad; to think something good was actually coming for me XD It was all too good to be true…
