High School Class of 2017

Oh yeah, did you apply to the OHS yet?

Oh my word, here everyone is talking about APs already, and here I am, with a school that outright bans APs in Freshman year!

I’ll be taking the Honors track, though, just waiting…prowling around for when that AP class comes into play.

@sg I’ve decided not to. It costs too much and for me, my original intention was so that I could take Calculus in freshman year, but then my regular high school let me take Trig in Freshman Year (so Calculus as a Sophomore) and I thought it was fine and had no reason to take OHS. Also my dad thinks I won’t concentrate with online classes.

tomatox1: There’s always financial aid. Assuming you guys are talking about Stanford OHS, I’m waiting till next year to apply. Building up a neat transcript and all. :)

I wish I could self study - but bureaucracy forbids it. Gosh. Plus, APs aren’t always available to ninth graders at my school, and I only get to take them because I specially requested and filled out all of this paperwork and stuff. But I have ANOTHER SCHEDULE! 'Cause nobody loves scheduling, which leads to fighting with counselors, which leads to extra money and paper and tons of other stuff. This schedule is for a magnet school ranked in the top five (according to US News) in the US.

Ninth Grade:
English 9 Hn
Biology Hn
Design and Tech
French 2
Precalculas with Trig Hn
Accel Com Sci
AP Music Theory
PE 9 (online. how great is that?!)

Unfortunetly I can’t take AP stats because their course is at a higher level than the rest of the county’s.

Tenth:
English 9 Hn
World History 2 Hn
French 3
AP Calc BC
AP Computer Science
AP Statistics
AP Biology
(Chemistry over the summer)
PE online again - I just love this knew course offering :P

Eleventh:
English 11 Hn (This is a STEM school, so no AP English until Senior year)
AP US History
Multivariable Calculas and Linear Algebra
AP Physics
AP French
Neurobiology
AP Psychology
AP Macro/ Micro (online)

Twelfth:
AP English Lang
AP US Gov
Geosystems Hn (mandatory course)
Senior Research Lab
Numerical analysis and something else
AP Chem
Artificial Intelligence 1& 2 (AP level course)

Critique people, critique. This school, being the magnet school, has more leeway in the skipping of courses, like not needing to take Psychology before AP Psychology.
In senior year I will also have the added stress of a Senior Research Lab, one of the many wonders of this particular magnet school, so I lightened the load a little.

Now a little note: I AM NOT YET ACCEPTED!!! (but I probably will be. I aced my essays, have a perfect GPA, and did pretty well on the tests)

Is it bad if I go to this thread for laughs?

And PE Online. That’s new O_O

I would love it if I could train online <3
No more chlorine burns, goggle marks, or suit tans! I suppose I would get maybe a bit slower, though? Maybe.

@joindate It wasn’t hard to get into the OHS for me (although I got in when I was 10, four years ago). I think you could apply this year, if your grades are pretty good. The deadline’s already passed, but I think the admin sometimes accepts late applications.

I felt so stupid yesterday. We had the math count competition and I was picked as one of the Team Representative which goes to the “School”. I scored 10/30 on the individual test and 0/8 on the target test and my team and I scored 8/10 on the team test. We placed 14/50 There was this one game who got 69th place and he should have been on the team besides me, and he’s in 7th grade. I feel like I’m a failure to math now. I get like one of the highest grade in Geometry Honors but during our math team practices, we haven’t been learning anything besides how the competition works. I placed 169th out of 700 students which makes me feel dishonored. Should I feel that way? I’m nervous and shy. My other members told me not to worry and it isn’t my fault. I don’t think I’m good at math anymore.

A.K.A That 7th grader is so annoying but he’s really great to know if you really met him instead of doing first impressions. He’s really great at mental math. He can say all the factorials from 1 - infinity and beyond by just calculating it mentally!

Guys what are you doing over the summer… any ideas?

@Kysanx our team got 6/25 and we’re from the bay area so it’s incredibly competitive. For some reason, I doubt we actually got 6th (first 5 go to state) and the teacher just told us that to make us feel better. I got 22 or so right on the sprint and 2 (misread like 2 questions) right on the target and 6 right on the team, and I was third. I felt so bad because this special ed seventh grade scored better than all of us…

@Tomatox1
I guess I shouldn’t feel bad about it. I was really silent during the ride back.

I just got my Ridgeview High School International Baccalaureate Program Ninth Grade PIB Personal Plan.

I need help deciding French or Spanish!

My orders are probably going to be First Choice: Comp Theatre III, Music I - PIB [ Choral Music ] Music I - PIB

@Jabberwocky seems doable, but there seems to be some holes in your schedule such as no Honors Physics before AP Physics

This summer, I’m probably just going to train more and possibly study for the SAT/ACT, although I’m happy with my 2240 and I know I can only score lower than my 36 on my ACT English and Reading. Anyone going to CTY?

I do math counts at my local public school, and I’m ranked second behind this sixth grader who can do mental math really fast. The joke is that he eats calculators for breakfast. I’m not allowed to represent the school at competition because that’s my only course there, so I didn’t go. Our school came in third behind two private schools last month in chapter round, so we’re going to state.

I did mathcounts at my school. Our coach gave us these chapter level tests sprinkled in with state level or school level. I got low 20s on the sprint for the chapter level and 5/6s on the target round for chapter level - but I still didn’t make the SCHOOL team. I live in the rich Northern Virginia area and my school is stocked with ubercompetitive geniuses:( I swear, some of them start studying for the SATs in Kindergarten.

@Tomatox1: This is the magnet school, so they assume that you are advanced enough to skip Physics Honors:):):)

I have a question for all of you eight graders. . . what was your worse semester/ year grade (not quarter). And for all of the experianced high schoolers stalking this forum, do middle school grades at all signify future high school grades?

98 in Geometry Honors! - Semester Grade

sg12909: I’m waiting to apply for the 2014-2015 school year because I want to use freshman year to build up a neat transcript. Besides, (like you said) the deadline already passed.

tomatox1: I’m staying busy this summer by attending a pre-freshman engineering program that will cover some of the basic of computer science, engineering concepts, and some advanced math topics. It counts towards my high school GPA and awards a high school credit upon successful completion so I better now blow it. :)

@Kysanx: Haha, 98 in Geometry Honors is your worst grade? What are you, a robot? Or does your teacher hand out a lot of extra credit? :)

My worst grade was a 80.01 in Pre-Algebra for a semester grade (don’t kill me! I’m just not mathematically inclined!)

@Jabberwocky7: My freshman schedule is tame compared to yours:

French II
Geometry Honors
Earth Science Honors
English Honors
History I Honors
Orchestra

Should I swap Orchestra (no honors/APs offered) for a double of an academic subject? I honestly don’t know…I feel like my courses are rigorous enough, compared with everyone else’s! :(

@joindate2013: Haha, thanks! I guess it’s a trip to the old, dank office that is around the corner from the main office for me…

@GoldenRatio: Heck no! There’s no way I would ever do extra credit! I’ve learned the hard way in 6th grade. ~_~
