High School Class of 2017

GoldenRatio: If that doesn’t work, you can always just ask your parents if you can take some online AP classes. Before you do that, make sure your high school will actually give you credit for the classes you successfully complete. If you don’t really care about getting high school credit, feel free to take whichever AP courses you’re interested in the most. :)

@joindate2013: Okay, I’ll keep that in mind! Thanks again! ;-)

My worst grade was probably a 83 in Chinese. Right now, though, I have a 84 in statistics, so I’d better study more

@kysanx your lowest grade is 98%?!? Do you have an 800 on your SAT math or something? :stuck_out_tongue: My highest grade is a 98!

Hey guys-
Just saw this thread- I was thinking about starting one in a month or two. Have you guys actually started studying for the SAT yet? I feel behind, but I don’t think I’ll start til fall.

Yep. I’ve taken it for the last three years. My score from this January is a 2240
When are you taking the test? Are you going to take the ACT too?

@SG12909 You are taking Statistics. Isn’t that suppose to be harder than Geometry?

Taking both. Yes, it’s harder than Geometry.

Dang. What grade did you start Algebra?

Algebra I (not honors though) in 6th, Honors Algebra II in 7th. What are you in?

Class of 2016 here. Keep a balance of social life, sleep, grades, and EC. Colleges like a well rounded person, so having only a good SAT/ACT score won’t get you far. A 2100 + good ECs and a little bit of networking can get you a long way.

Oh yeah, also did you guys hear that College Board might be changing the SAT yet again? I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing for us 17ers, because of the fact that some 17ers here on CC have already taken/are studying for the SAT as it is (myself included). Apparently, they’re going to change it in around 2014 (if they do decide to change it), so it could affect us in the future. What are you guys’ thoughts on this?

[College Board to make changes to SAT - The Washington Post](http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/college-board-to-make-changes-to-sat/2013/02/26/fb332bc4-8063-11e2-b99e-6baf4ebe42df_story.html)

^ !!!

What that heck .-. I didn’t know more people took the ACT. Also, I hope it doesn’t happen late in 2014, since I am from the class of 2016.

Haha, people thought that I deserved to be in regular math in 6th grade rather than Advance. I have to tell you, all my other grade math teacher made me lose hope as I remember my fifth grade math teacher was teaching Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally to us, she thought that you have to do Addition before subtraction and and multiplication before division which made us confused and screwed.

My math teacher who also taught advance in 6th grade lead me into a passion of loving math and I guess you can say that teachers can change the passions of loving a subject. I took Algebra 1 Honors last year in 7th grade, I had a 99 the whole year and I passed the Florida EOC with the highest score in my school, beating all those 8th graders. Currently, I’m taking Geometry Honors with 10 other fellow gifted students in the math subject. In 9th grade, I’m planning on taking Algebra 2 Honors, then Pre Calculus, Calculus, and then in 12th grade either take AP Statistics or IB Higher Level Math

@TheApplier: Okay, so if I did horribly on my first SAT (1800 in 7th grade), then there’s no hope for me now…>_<

@joindate2013: Can you please recommend sites where I could take APs online?

@Kysanx: My highest grade was a 108.59 in English! But yours is probably higher.

@sg12909: You have my complete and utter respect; your math classes are insane! I was doing Math 6 in 6th grade, Pre-Algebra in 7th, and Algebra Honors in 8th!

@Maverick10: I never study for these standardized test things. It’s a bad habit, I know; I might start studying sophomore year, but until then, I’m just going to enjoy life! And hopefully beat my seventh grade SAT score…

I’m class of 2017

Maverick10: I heard the news a couple days ago. I don’t really mind since I haven’t started studying for the SAT yet and I probably won’t begin until the beginning or end of sophomore year. Studying before sophomore year sounds crazy to me.

GoldenRatio: CTYOnline is a program run by Johns Hopkins University that offers online AP courses. You have to apply to the program and have qualifying ACT or SAT scores to take a course. It is a little pricey but I imagine their financial aid must be pretty generous if you truly need it.

abcabc333: Almost everyone posting on this thread is, LOL

@joindate2013: Oh, I remember CTY; I was in their talent search a while ago. Thanks! By the way, are you in the class of '17?

Has anyone gotten Johns Hopkins University Grand Award? It’s for grades 7-8, but I got it in 6th too because I made the 7th grade criteria. They invite you to the main campus for ceremony. Also, is anyone in SET? I qualified and still need to fill out the form.

@sg12909: Haha, no and no. I’m such an unqualified child.
