High School Class of 2018

isn’t everyone?

Hey!
Is anybody here entering 9th grade done with Algebra and Geometry?

Yeah I take algebra 2

@SnickersU Your kidding me, right. I would take any other science AP over AP Bio. But seriously, for you freshman, it depends on personal skill. Most AP sciences have more to do with logic and math. AP Bio is more memorization. Some people say it’s easier, because it is just memorization, but not me. AP Bio should be quite a lot of reading, BUT the curriculum is changing a bit, so that might change. Good luck to you all! My sister is in your class, but she’s not joining CC just yet.

@Pandu16‌ Yeah I’m taking algebra 2

I’m taking advanced geometry. There are kids in my grade taking Algebra I, and there are kids taking Pre-Calc. And geometry is the standard for my 9th grade at my school.

@Pandu16‌ In my school district, the most advanced math an eighth grader can take is Algebra 1, so then they take Geometry their freshman year. However, in rare cases, a freshman can take Algebra 2 as a freshman. There are 3 ways xD I’ll go from most common to least.

Has been 2 years ahead in math since a diagnostic test in 5th grade or something.

Came from another school district.

Taking Geometry and Algebra 2 at the same time. This one is super rare :P

Thanks. Is anybody here trying out for IB?

I remember Freshman year…

I’ve been in high school for a week and 3 days now. I can honestly say that it is much better than middle. I’m involved with the marching band and that’s gotten me a lot of friends.

@LosingCrayon‌ You happen to be part of number 3 :stuck_out_tongue: :D

@Pandu16‌ My school doesn’t offer IB; it only offers APs.

I’m taking multivariable.

^ Cool. Taking pre calc. School starts Wednesday.

@dragonfruit18‌ I just reread my post and realized I said, “a freshman can take Algebra 2 as a freshman.” >_<

@Pandu16‌ My school only offers AP as well. It’s a lot more common for schools to offer AP than IB.

My top choice is UPenn or UVA, but I’m going to have to work extremely hard to even be considered for those places.

I really want to study Biological Computing, so my top choices are pretty stereotypical for a Californian: Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC Davis. With my current courseload, I know I’m going to work EXPONENTIALLY hard in the next four years.

Are you guys taking a foreign language? I have no room in my schedule for it, so I’m self studying German and French; it’s actually kind of fun, so I’m a bit disappointed. Should I be worried if I don’t take a language now?

@HopefulStud‌ I guess if you’re getting credit for the self-studying, it should be fine  If not, just try to test out of a year or two of one of the foreign languages next year (as long as you’re getting credit for testing out, lol). Remember that some schools recommend or even require a certain amount of foreign language. I don’t think Biological Computing requires foreign language knowledge, but it would still help a lot more if you took at least 3 years.

I’m taking French though! My teacher is a native Spanish speaker who teaches Spanish 1, French 1, German 3, and German 4/5 though, so it’s kind of weird. She can’t pronounce some things, it’s like the blind leading the blind xD But I wish my school had Japanese…

Guys I am freaking out about my schedule!! I wanted to take AP bio but it’s full now. My schedule is now

Spanish 1
Honors English 1
Honors biology
Food and nutrition uggggh
Algebra 2
Exploring computer science
Volleyball

Now I have two unwanted electives and hardly any of my classes changed. And as soon as she said it was full my friend got in. ■■■???
Is this schedule okay?

@Cookiesandcreme‌ Don’t worry, freshman schedule doesn’t matter as much as sophomore or junior  If it helps, I’m taking Piano as an elective and non-honors Biology :P

I would kill to be a Freshman again. It was really fun for me. I’m a Junior now, and all I can think about are ACT’s…ugh.

Most schools have Algebra II as a Sophomore/Junior class, but at my high school it’s a Freshman class. Weird…
