Hey fellow sophomores, I just found this thread and am so excited that there are other people here going through the same stuff I have too.
@apple1893 I have similar reasoning for self-studying the AP’s, I got a B in P.E. (my teacher rarely give A’s to girls) and when I brought it up she said “I don’t know why you upset with that” Well, it is sexist and unfair but she didn’t seem to care. Oh well, I hope she is understanding with my decision on the AP’s.
@awkward4ever Welcome! Are you excited for this school year? or if you started school, how is it going?
@Livdagos WOW that is terrible. As a male I can’t understand why a teacher may think that girls don’t deserve an A in a class, especially PE! I want to self study AP’s so it weighs more than my GPA. But hey, we got 3 years left to succeed, lets find a way to do it!
Anyone here still have to take PE? In my state you only need 1 year, and I took the first semester in summer school freshman year because I really just hate PE
@Livdagos That’s so unfair :l PE grades should be based on participation and any tests, not physical ability and sex
@apple1893 That sounds hard x_x But I guess if you already know a little programming it shouldn’t be too bad. Good luck!
Its my first year @reidd799
I started school 8/19. I love my teachers so far. Pretty weird right?
I have a question about unweighted GPA calculation. My school grades on a 100 point scale. Is a 4.0 gpa the same as getting a 90 or higher in all your classes? I have tried looking it up online, but it varies a lot. How do your schools calculate it?
@hamlon
This is how I view it. 4.0 = 95-100, 3.9 = 94, and so on. Maybe this website will answer you question http://inquiry.princetonreview.com/leadgentemplate/GPA_popup.asp
Check this website http://inquiry.princetonreview.com/leadgentemplate/GPA_popup.asp it has all the gpa conversions. A 4.0 is a 95-100.
cool!
@losingcrayon @apple1893 It sucks but I only have one more semester (yay! hoping it is my first so I can be done with it forever) . I was going to take P.E. in summer school but I had to work instead.
MY school doesn’t offer PE unless you are freshman but it doesn’t go towards your GPA. I didn’t take it because had classes during that time.
@apple1893 Your so lucky! I wish my school was like that.
My school doesn’t have any PE at all because it’s a private school, and as much as I hated PE, I still need something to keep me in shape because I have no time to exercise when I get home
@Hamlon okay so a 4.0 is equal to an A for most schools an A is a 95 or 94 to a 100. But, if the class is weighted then that 94/95-100 is equal to a 5.0.
For my school this is the GPA system:
A: 4.0 uw/ 5.0 w
A-: 3.67 uw/4.67 w
B+: 3.33 uw/4.33 w
B: 3.0 uw/4.0 w
B-: 2.67 uw/ 3.67 w
C+: 2.33 uw/ 3.33 w
C: 2.0 uw/ 3.0 w
C-: 1.67 uw/ 2.67 w
D+: 1.33 uw/ 2.33 w
D: 1.0 uw/ 2.0 w
D-: .67 uw/ 1.67 w
F: 0 uw/0 w
To calculate your GPA you: Multiply the amount of credits the class is worth by the amount of credits earned and get that answer for each class (i.e. If you got a B in a regular english class you would do 3•5 which is 15). Your answer is called the quality points for that class. Then add all your quality points together from each class and divide by the amount of credits you took overall. Ta da! Your GPA
Hope that helps!
Anyone excited for sports? I have soccer starting Monday!
Is it strange I am not that worried about the PSAT? I mean junior year is when it matters most… I did get the Barron’s book anyway however and am probably going to start on that once I get settled into school.
Do you guys think I should worry about the PSAT? I’m thinking about doing it just to see how I do and then see how much effort I have to put in it for next year and the year after. Also, I have an online college class through a technical college and it is so fun! Although it looks like the professor only assigns one thing per week and it’s really short.
I take online college classes also! I take CS 101 from Stanford. What do you take? @HelloThereHola
@apple1893 @mamaba Thanks for the info!
@HelloThereHola I think you should take the PSAT this year. I took it last year and immediately found out that I really needed to work on my grammar and editing skills b/c my writing score was almost 20 points lower than my other scores. The College Board is changing the test again, so you’d have an advantage over the other kids when they see the test for the first time next year. When you study for the PSAT, you’re also studying for the SAT and ACT. It’s good for you either way.
@apple1893 wow I take it from Georgia Northwestern Technical College. I have Sociology 1101. The reason I’m taking it from there is because my high school has a deal with them or something so a class on my schedule is dedicated to it. (Block Schedule)
@Hamlon Thanks for the information! I meant that I was going to take it but I was asking if I should study. You still convinced me
