High School Class of 2018

Is anyone else trying to cover up their freshman year GPA by going HAM during sophomore? I know I am!!!

I am too! @apple1893 and that’s great! I might take some.

What is HAM?

@wonderfulreads let me rephrase, “Is anyone else trying to cover up their freshman year GPA by working harder than ever during sophomore? I know I am!!!”

To go ham is to put forth a lot of effort. Giving 200% instead of 100%. @wonderfulreads

@apple1893 @aspiringgirl Ah, thank you :slight_smile:

lol no problem @wonderfulreads

What are your dream colleges?

I want to go to an Ivy league but I got LOTS of work to do till then to make that dream a reality. What about you @aspiringgirl

@apple1893 Yes, I need to hide some of my freshmen grades!

@aspiringgirl My dream school is Princeton ! But not a reality for me finacially and I have no chances getting in, oh well

I’m enjoying the material so far, but I’ve been warned about teachers like mine. He likes to get off track and start telling his stories, so about half of class is wasted. Apparently, most students miss important information when teachers do that [-O< We’ll see how Monday goes! My essay isn’t due till Tuesday and I’m about halfway through it. When is your first quiz? @sewin2music

@TNGirl13 That sucks! Do you know what your teacher’s AP test passing rate is? I have no idea when the “quiz” is! She hasn’t told us yet except that it will be soon so I am freaking out!!! Soon could be days, a week, who knows! I’m probably over stressing though…

@aspiringgirl my dream college would probably be UCLA because of its nursing program, but their acceptance rate is like 2% for nursing!!

My ultimate dream school is Standord or Yale. (No I am not a rich snobby child) My grades were really good except that I got a B in AP Bio last year (my freshmen year). I was really upset.

@aspiringgirl Wow, how did you take AP Bio freshman year? Most people who take the class are sophomores double up in Honors Physical Science (first semester is introductory chemistry, second semester is introductory physics) and Honors Bio their freshman year. I personally did this last year but AP Bio wouldn’t fit in my schedule this year, as the class is double blocked.

Btw would you recommend taking it online? My state (SC) has this online portal things through which you can take some AP classes. I took PE through it first semester of my freshman year though I am apprehensive about taking AP Bio from it, since I hear the class requires a buttload of reading.

@ish512 I also took AP Gov and Pol. It was actually pretty easy for me to get in given my credentials.
I wouldn’t recommend taking it online because some parts might be difficult to understand, thus causing you to ask for teacher assist. Teachers are also more lenient. It was sooooooooo much reading.

I’m going to most likely major in CS, Astrophysics, Math or Engineering Physics, so my ideal schools I want to go to are Berkeley, Duke. UIUC or Georgia Tech. Berkeley seems too good to be true as they offer next to no merit aid to OOS folks like me. Duke and Georgia Tech are most appealing to me considering that they are only a state away from me.

@aspiringgirl Thanks for the reply. Most of my friends are in AP Bio right now, and they get a LOT of reading (like 20 pages a night from a textbook with size 6 font WITH notes, so around 50-60 pages of normal reading). A lot of people who took the class last year used CollegeBoard to find test answers, which was actually something the teacher recommended (the teacher is strange). This makes me glad I took Precalc this year as the class is probably the easiest math class at my school.

I’m going to probably take AP Gov my senior year with Macroecon, as this is what most people do their senior year at my school. I had only 1 AP last year, Human Geo. My school is super strict about skipping pre reqs and will not people “test out” of classes by taking the final exam. I tried to do this with Precalc so I could have space for AP Bio this year and Java I so I could have taken APCS this year, but ended up getting big fat NO’s regardless of the fact that I was in the top 2% of my class and had a 100 in Algebra II.

My current school is huge on prerequisites too. I went to a different school with barely any. In my WHAP class we have so much reading, and everyone takes notes because you can use them on test. @ish512

@wonderfulreads we have these huge charts to fill out about molecule genetics, organelles, the big 4, and water electronegativity. Plus the huge test and 4 essays.

My guidance department screwed up my schedule and now I’m most likely not going to be able to take Java :(. Can any of you give me the information for the online java courses? It’s a 9-10th grade only class so I can’t take it after this school year through school.
