What type of debate do you do, @Stalasphyx64? I do Novice L-D.
@frazzledazzle My county has its own debate league with about 20 participating schools, we have our own rules following the Oregon Policy Debate Format. We have JV/Varsity teams, im currently on JV and most likely varsity next year.
I’m a 15 year old Asian female in Socal & I’m attending an art school but I might want to study Computer Science in the future… I’m also doing some extracurriculars relating to law and politics. It’s really fun but I’m so bad at leadership stuffff ));
I’m struggling in APWH ): , I just took the unit test im hopping my grade doesnt drop [-O<
I also hate MC test they always screw me up
@TrainerGary Same. I thought I could slack off on a couple assignments here and there and consequently struggled to pull my average up to a 90 in that class. The essay was hard, but I aced every quiz. Shouldn’t have counted on quizzes to balance my grade because my teacher weights certain assignments 5x more. I still really enjoy what we’re learning and don’t mind the amount of reading.

I’ve seen mentionings of a “hook” on this discussion page and numerous others. What exactly IS a “hook”?
@frazzledazzle A “hook” is a characteristic that significantly and positively impacts your admission chances. What is and isn’t a hook is widely debated (usually on here). Some generally agreed upon hooks are URMs (under represented minorities, for Affirmative Action schools) and a heavily recruited athlete, etc.
How much homework do you guys all get per weekday, on average?
@WishStar12 I usually have around two hours, but my varies depending how I break up doing homework (my school has block scheduling). What about you?
Maybe 3 to 5 hours per day.
@wonderfulreads mine usually depends on which day of the week and what ECs I have that day because we have double periods and single periods throughout the week, but it can range between 2-5 hours, depending on how many major assignments I have the next day and how much time I happen to be free.
I get 1-3 hours of homework per day
@WishStar12 I get around an hour a night for Algebra 2, an hour a week for Criminal Justice Operations 2, 2 hours a week for English Honors 3, 2 hours a week for AP World History, and about an hour a week for Chemistry Honors. The rest of my classes I don’t get homework for. As you can see I don’t get that much homework xD
I can’t believe first quarter is over next week…
@wonderfulreads IKR, right now I have 5 A’s 2 B’s and 1 C. I’m hoping that I can manage to pull those B’s to A’s by then (Criminal Justice Operations 2 and Algebra 2) and pull my C to a B (AP World History)
@Phantomlink Does your quarter grades affect your GPA?
We get report cards, but only our semester grades go on our transcript and such…
@wonderfulreads Only semester grades go on the transcript and affect GPA, but the semester grade is determined by 35% 1st quarter, 35% 2nd quarter, and 30% exam.
@Phantomlink Oh, that’s rough. Good luck! (:
@wonderfulreads Thanks! I had a pretty bad freshman year (was lazy and ended up with a 3.4 GPA) so I’m trying super hard this year to get my grades up!
