High School Class of 2018

I wanted to ask if colleges see all SAT subject tests? Also, my school doesn’t weight classes and I had a 4.0 freshman year taking 2 honors classes. This year I’m taking 1 honor, 2 APs as a sophomore and I don’t know if I should drop Spanish 4AP to go to Spanish 4H where I would get a better grade. My school is stupid and doesn’t offer AP World History (it’s supposed to be a good boarding school but I’m seriously doubting it). So I’m most likely going to study for that myself.

It depends… from 1 1/2 to 5 hours. If I have AP Euro homework 2+ hours if not it’s normally less than 3. I get math Homework done during lunch  @WishStar12

@wonderfulreads This year is going by so fast!!! I have 5 A’s and an 87% in AP Euro… I doubt I can get that to an A in one week but we’ll see!!!

Anyone in IB Diploma or know anyone in IB Diploma?

@cxprus I am not in IB Diploma, but the majority of my friends are

We don’t have IB at my school, but we do have AP classes and I take those.
I usually get between 3-6 hours of homework per night (depends on how much I procrastinate).
First quarter ends, for me, on Oct. 30 (we started Sep. 1).
@aspiringgirl, thanks for telling me! Would placing at a state level science fair, or being a participant in the Intel ISEF science fair count for a hook?

@frazzledazzle People have many different opinions. It depends on what types of things you want to do in college, etc.
I personally think that being a participant in the Intel ISEF science fair is quite impressive ( Is it difficult to participate?).
I wouldn’t trust my decision because I’m only 15, and I don’t want much engineering/technology stuff.

Now that I’m getting older I feel like I should be ready to request letters of recommendation more often and I now really need my teachers to like me and oh no what to do…

Is anybody applying for HOBY this year? I don’t know if all schools do it the same way but for us we need to submit our past leadership experience and include 2 letters of rec! Ahh I’m so scared since I have close to no leadership roles from the past

@aspiringgirl I plan on participating in the future, so I have to place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at my state science fair, which is easy to participate in. I’m 15, too! I want to go to college for astronomy/astrophysics and/or music performance.

@frazzledazzle Usually hooks are things like first generation college student, under repersented minority, etc. So no, it wouldnt IMO. Wow yall have a lot of homework! I usually have around 45 mins-1hr a day, with the occasional 2-3 hr day when I descide to procrastinate/everybody decides to assign a ton on the same day, but that only happens like once every two weeks.

@frazzledazzle What is HOBY?
@Madeline25 If that is the case, I have several hooks!

I have a chemistry test tomorrow! This is worth 30% of my grade and I’m really nervous. I currently have an A in the class, hopefully I’ll be able to keep it that way. :frowning:

You got it! Be confident in your answer selection. DON’T over study. I know that might sound crazy but it isn’t (Google "over studying "). Remember you still have a little time to make the grade back up. @Phantomlink

@raffie funny you ask I just got my HOBY acceptance letter from my school today! I’m so so so excited!
@aspiringgirl I know you didn’t ask me personally but HOBY is the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation. It’s super cool and participating schools get to send one (or two) students to their Leadership Seminars. You have to be a sophomore. There’s also the WLC (World leadership conference) and many other programs. It’s super cool.

Today was super great though because we found out our class ranks and I’m currently 7/400. Does anyone else’s school do class ranks? I know a lot of schools are slowly moving away from them.

@Phantomlink I hope you did well on your chem test! Chemistry was awful (for me) and I don’t miss it at all. Just remember that as the year goes on it does get a little bit easier. Study study study and you can do it

I’m not sure about the test. It was about 50 questions. The first 15 problems were really easy questions about vocab and stuff, but then I flipped the page and it was all measurements and significant figures. I think I did ok on the measurements but I forgot the rules for sig figs! :((

How has school been going for you guys? For me:
None of my classes are hard but they take a lot of my time. Also I finally was able to join clubs so now I am in Speech and Debate (so fun), Science Bowl and Science Olympiad(Hard but fun), iGem, and NHS/CSF.

AP World History is so fun but there is so much work to do
AP Computer Science is very easy right now.

@Phantomlink I hope you did well on Chemistry. I love Biology not Chem

I have a blog you guys should go read it/ subscribe!
