Just got back from All-State Choir. Was super fun, the conductor was amazing, and my director told me he thinks I should try out for All-Nation next year - only problem is my voice is p much completely gone now (was kinda sick before, am SUPER sick now) and I have a huge MUN conference this Friday. Oh well, that’s life.
And congratulations chrysalism, hope you feel better.
I can’t believe first semester is over. Grades aren’t finalized yet, but I think I did good. I think I shocked a lot of people because I wasn’t even recommended for honors last year, since I was going through medical stuff and making straight C’s. Now I’m one of the top students in my class, even though people said I couldn’t do it. So I’m proud of myself :))
Speaking of that medical problem, yesterday was my three years post op, so that was exciting, for me atleast.
@stanford200381 Good job! That’s really amazing! @chrysalism I hope that your voice recovers. Still, if your director wants to send you to All-Nation next year, that must mean that you’re an amazing singer! Good luck with the MUN conference!
Algebra 1 - 96 A
History - 93 A
Business - 97 A
Computer Science - 97 A
English 9 - 96 A
French 1 - 98 A
Phys Science - 98 A
I think I did well. I mean, history could have been higher, but besides that I’m happy with my grades! And all my first semester averages are a 95 and up!
Good job on the 95 average, by the way. I had a bit of a slump, and my average is about 87. But my school treats 80-89 as an A, and 90+ A*, so that’s okay.
Hey everyone! I’m quite late to this forum, but I’d like to get involved. Freshman year is pretty easy. I have 98’s in Pre-AP World History Honors, Research Biology Honors, and English 9 Honors. The last one is particularly surprising because English is my second language. I have a 96 in Algebra 2/ Trig Honors, but all the teachers at my school are really bad in this subject and the average grade is an 83, so I’m doing pretty well. I have 102 in Latin 3, and 100 in Business and PE. Latin is my 7th language, and one of six I speak fluently. The PE grade is frankly hilarious because I haven’t done PE since the 4th grade.
From what I’ve read of the forum, all of you seem awesome. There are a lot of STEM people on here as well (hopefully some I’ll see in medicine someday) which is great since most of my friends are theater people. Being in plays takes up about 12 or 14 hours a week, and about 30 hours during tech week, so you get close with the other theater kids very quickly.
I have some questions for everyone:
What classes are you taking next year?
What, if any, classes are you taking this summer?
What do you all want to do in life and how are you using high school to help achieve this?
My personal answers:
AP World History, Research Chemistry Honors, AP Calculus BC, English 10 Honors, AP Biology, AP
Macroeconomics/ AP Microeconomics or AP Statistics, and PE.
Math Analysis Honors (Honors Precalculus with an Introduction to Calculus)
I want to be an Emergency Room Physician. I’m taking 9 math and 7 science classes to help achieve this, as well as
immersing myself in history and culture through AP humanities classes.
@bwhs2021 Well, in my school, you take the same subjects freshman and sophomore year, and the curriculum is as advanced as American honors curriculum. So, next year, and same as this year, I’ll be taking Chemistry, Physics, Biology (I know), Math, English, English Literature, Spanish, Economics (both Macro and Micro are integrated) and Business.
I can’t take any summer classes, because I live in India, and there is no dual enrollment here. But I’m teaching myself precalc, so that’s okay.
I want to be a doctor. I know it’s really hard, but there’s something bout it that draws me in.
@bwhs2021 Welcome!
My schedule next year will probably be honors Biology, honors geometry, honors algebra 2, honors English 10, honors American World History 2, Computer Science 2, and introduction to the healthcare profession.
I’m not taking any classes in the summer.
I want to be a neurologist or neuro-oncologist. I’m volunteering and hopefully shadowing a doctor to achieve this.
@AtomicMan576 Yeah I do, but that’s not the only reason. Neurology is one of the few specialties were you’ll treat your patients long term, and I like that aspect.
AP BC Calculus, AP US History, AP Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Chinese 3, Choir
Taking English 2 Honors over the summer so I can take two sciences next year (my school has ana/phys as a pre- or co-requisite to AP Bio) without screwing up my extracurricular schedule with an extra class.
Something STEM, and I’ve only got a vague idea beyond that. At the beginning of this year I was super into becoming a biomedical engineer, but I’ve definitely been getting more interested in mathematics/economics-related fields lately? Who knows.
@chrysalism that is happening to me too. I wanted to become a psychiatrist or a neurologist, but I’ve got an insatiable thirst for math. When I’m at soccer practice, I find myself doing math in my head.
Hey everyone! I know I’m also kinda late to this thread haha. I think it’s so cool that there are people who are thinking about college now. A lot of my friends think it’s too early but honestly it’s been on my mind constantly since I started middle school! Everyone here looks like they’re such good students! I’ve been super stressed the past week because my grades game out for semester 1, and they aren’t too great… 3.53 unweighted GPA. does anyone know if colleges care about honors courses or is it just AP??
@figuresk8school Same, with GPA for me. I had a 3.78 first term, and I currently have a 3.6. Yeah. Not too good. I have heard, however, that GPA is becoming rapidly less important in college admissions. If I were you, I’d concentrate on winning competitions and things like that, while keeping your grade above a 3.5. As for your question about Honors or AP courses, I can’t answer it because sadly my school doesn’t have any of them. Our regular classes are really tough instead.
By the way, everyone, I just got news back from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards! One Silver Key and two Gold Keys! I am really happy!
I may have good grades, but I don’t think I’ll be able to win any awards. My extracurriculars aren’t the best. I’m getting my tb test Wednesday so I can volunteer at the hospital. My other extracurriculars are art club, key club, french club, track, and a social justice program to bring diversity into my school and community.
@AtomicMan576 i didnt know there were opportunities for that at this age! it’s something i’ve been interested in for a while though, and i want to do RSI when I can.
Hey, I’m been reading this forum for a while but just decided to create an account to ask this question:
What APs if any would you consider taking sophomore year?
My school has already handed out course request forms and they are due at the end of this month (2/26).
With the classes I’m taking this year, I think the only AP I could take and pass would be AP Amer. Government/Politics ( My county’s history track is 9th: US History, 10th: Local, State, and National Government, 11th: World History ).
