Hey guys! This is from my most recent thread, and is something I’m really worried about. Please let me know!
"I’m taking Algebra 2 Honors Gifted as a freshman but have a weak foundation in math, so I’m averaging at a low B. I want to double major in Biology and Comparative Government/or International Affairs with a hopes of becoming an interventional cardiologist and going to Columbia University. The rest of my courses are rigorous, something I can handle, but math is where I flounder. Could I take IB Math Studies sophomore year and then take Pre-Calculus during the summer of junior year?
I hope on finishing at LEAST AP Calc AB by the time I graduate."
Thank you!
@lumen3141 I thought IB Math Studies was harder or equal to PreCalc? Anyways, I don’t know much about IB.
Hey, so I’m curious right now as to how my Sophomore schedule looks:
Theology 2
Spanish 2 Honors (Notoriously hard at our school)
Pre Calc Honors
AP Chem or Bio
Symphonic Band or AP Music Theory
English 2 Honors
Creative Writing
History class taken over the summer so free period
I’m mainly involved in Swim, Speech and Debate, and potentially the Band’s Evening Orchestra and Jazz Ensembles (not sure yet). I’m hoping to be more focused on writing.
@lumen3141 I think that @wontonandrice is right. IB Math Studies has derivative calculus in its syllabus. Have you taken Trig/Geometry yet? You could take that, then PreCalc then CalcAB…
I had my first academic team competition last night! I only joined last week so didn’t have much time to prepare, and I was the only person in the social studies category for my school, so I was super nervous. However, despite me little having time to prepare, I got 6th out of 20 teams! Once it is time for the area championship (next month) I will be way more prepared. I’m hoping I can make state!!
I took geometry in 8th grade, but am still recommended to take Math Studies or to slow down a bit. That’s why I was thinking to do math tutoring this summer and then slow it down a year and do Pre-Calc the following summer.
It’s the last week of the 3rd quarter! I must say, I’m not very happy with my grades. One or two of my lowest should go up, but my Algebra 2 grade can maybe be a B+ or A-.
Honors English 9- 100
Physical Education 1- 94, but I’m going to get it to a 100 once I turn in my make-up paper.
Honors Earth Science- 91, but it should go up because I have two 0s for assignments that I was sick for, and I made them up.
Honors Algebra 2- 86. I’m so angry about this one. I literally had like a 128 when I left my old school.
Honors Biology 1- 98. I’m pleased with this!
Spanish 2- 98. I’m also pleased with this!
Theatre Arts 1- 87. This will probably go up because of a test I took and a few worksheets I did.
I mean my grades aren’t bad but they aren’t nearly where I want them to be.
This week is gonna be so stressful y’all
I’m running for class office and a Model UN position and both of those elections are this week, on Friday I’m going to a Chinese competition I’ve had way too little time to prepare for because of how late the teacher notified me of it (wrote a speech on Beijing opera & am performing a song), I find out my open exam Bio Olympiad results tomorrow (probably didn’t make semifinals but yanno a girl can dream), have to film a documentary that my group isn’t helping me with whatsoever, and have like the usual 10 tests that teachers love to cram in right before spring break.
Also, I find out Wednesday if I got accepted into this hella competitive AI summer program - I honestly have no idea what my chances are, but I’m realize now that I previously mentioned it to my friend and she also applied for it and her stats are similar to mine + since only 24 people get in they probably wouldn’t take 2 kids from the same town hhhhhhhh why am I like this
On spring break my friend and I are going on a trip to look at colleges, which is going to be super hectic, but we got tickets to see Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway so I’m super excited anyway lmao.
@CavsFan2003 hey those are decent grades don’t worry - besides you really only need to care about your yearly average, not quarterly, and the B’s are high enough that u can probably bring them up to A’s if you care that much. also congrats on your academic competition results! wishing you the best of luck at ur next competition, youll do great
@wontonandrice that’s a great soph schedule!! Definitely a good idea to be getting started with multiple APs
y’all i’m going to my second MUN conference this weekend wish me luck lol! this is the first one i’m actually relatively prepared for because we got our countries + committees three days b4 for my first conference, lol!
and i have a midterm in english next week— the class of my lowest grade rip. lord help me lmao.
my grades rn are kinda on the lower side so i’m hoping to bring them up… but then again i have a bunch of probably difficult exams this upcoming week soo… yikes? lol.
geometry H - 95.8
english 9 H - 94.9 (rip)
spanish 2 - 103.2
ap human geography - 99.0
biology H - 95
@chrysalism hope everything goes smoothly for all your elections & that you get accepted into your artificial intelligence summer program!!
After a long hiatus after the upperclassmen found my CC account, I’m back… yeah. They’ll probably find this post again, idk how often they’ll check it or if they care. If they’re reading this then whatever.
Anyway… I’m really into alternative rock music right now. The freshman/sophomore formal is in two weeks and I got a super cute dress for it (navy blue <3). Our school had so many snow days they’re going to tack on some days at the end of the school year, but I’m not going because haha psych, I have summer programs to go to.
I got an internship with a professional sports team in my city!! I’m pretty excited about it. I think I’ll be working at games with the statisticians, just sort of assisting them when necessary. It doesn’t start until the next season, but I’m still really excited about it.
I got my Spanish grade up to a 100! And it turns out my Theatre and Algebra grades are higher than I thought- I have an 89 in Algebra and an 89 in Theatre. I’m really hoping I can get them up to a 93 by the end of the semester, which I should be able to do. I had to send in an application to my local college yesterday for dual-credit Pre-Calculus. I don’t know why, but I felt really adult doing it. It was weird LOL!
This is also kind of childish, but I made a Minecraft server for the chat group I run. I built a computer a couple of weeks ago and have been playing games more than usual. I hope this can be a good thing for my community.
We’re writing research papers for our freshman English final. I’m writing mine about the connection between income and college admissions. I’m proving in my paper how being rich can help students get into colleges. I’m actually really excited for this project.
UGH! I really need spring break, too. Mine isn’t until March 30th. I am dying.
Hi all! So we got our schedule request forms for sophomore year a few weeks ago, and I would like your opinions on it. I also dual enroll at a local college. Also, in Florida Aice classes gives you a free scholarship to any Florida university and can be matched for out of state universities.
- AICE English Language ( The equivalent to ENC1101 in college)
- AICE International History
- AP chemistry
- AICE thinking skills (Its a free period for me to work on my other classes basically, it is still college credit)
- Biomedical Sciences
- Anatomy and Physiology 1 with Lab (College class , dual enrollment)
- AP statistics
Then online i would take
At college, i would take
Would this be too much?
I got a 63/64 on my algebra test, which is pretty bad since there was 4 bonus points. I’m doing pretty well in there anyways, I have a 103%. Tomorrow is the day of the quarter, and then it’s sring break,
I’m curious as to what your schedules are? Outside of studying and sports I haven’t had much time for anything.
@wontonandrice Here’s my schedule.
7:30 - Wake up.
7:35 - Go to bathroom and chill, brush hair, teeth, get dressed, etc.
8:10 - Take dog outside, feed him, eat breakfast if I remember
8:45 - Get picked up for school by friend
8:55 - Arrive at school
9:05 - Honors English 9
10:00 - Phys Ed
10:55 - Honors Earth Science
11:50 - Honors Algebra 2
12:55 - Lunch, I usually don’t eat lunch so I just go to the library and read or go on the Internet.
1:30 - Honors Biology 1
2:25 - Spanish 2
3:20 - Theatre Arts
4:10 - School dismisses
4:15 - Head to academic team practice
5:00 - Leave school
5:10 - Arrive at home, take dog out, play with him
5:15 - Make snack
6:00 - Do homework
7:30 - Eat dinner, feed dog
11:00 - Take dog out, get in shower
12:30 - Go to sleep
My schedule’s a little bit wacked out, lol.
mixed bag of a week haha
got the mun position (super happy bc i ran against 5 people and there’s over 100 ppl in our club, and also i love all of the other new officers), got a choir solo, and did decently on all the tests leading up to spring break, but didn’t get into the ai program or bio olympiad semis, rip in peace (although my friend who i thought was gonna take my place didn’t get in either so i don’t feel THAT bad abt it). the chinese competition ended up being me competing against all juniors and seniors but i still got 3rd place and now i can just chill for a week! yeet!
so next year i’m already set up for multiple leadership positions - won elections in bio olympiad and mun, and i’m running unopposed for class office. we’ll see how much work it is.
and lmao here’s my schedule:
5:45 - wake up
6:45 - go 2 school
7:00 - precalc/trig de
8:00 - english 2 h
9:00 - chinese 2 h
10:00 - chemistry h
11:00 - ap world history
12:00 - choir
1:00 - lunch (if i have time)
1:00 to 4:00 - between one and three clubs, depending on the day (except thursdays in which i just chill outside the building + skateboard for 3 hrs with my friends who do speech&debate)
after clubs - get home, chill, play piano and uke probably
5:00 - start hw
7:00 - eat dinner, watch jeopardy
9:30 - shower
10:30 to 12:00 - go 2 sleep
this was way more screwy when i had crew almost every day from 4-7, but i had no time for that and school so i dropped it and my life has been 100% better
my best friend is coming over in a few hours and then we’re gonna fly to new york and look at colleges in the northeast for a week and NOT think about school
@stanford200381 congrats dude!!!
@Nkemdirim oof that is certainly a lot! just wondering, how come you’re taking three sciences? you could probably still handle all of it but you’re not gonna have a lot of (or any, for that matter) free time. you definitely seem super dedicated though, and that’s awesome!!
Hey guys! Sorry…I know it’s been a while since I posted. And wow–schedules? You people are really getting into things. Anyhow, I got news back from Scholastic a couple weeks ago–I received a Gold Medal and a Silver Medal in the National Competition! Yeah!
Oh, and @chrysalism , I see you watch Jeopardy! Did you try for the Jeopardy Online Teen Test? They had it around a week ago, and I’m currently eagerly waiting for results.
@FlameAlchemist You took the online test? I did too! I found the answers on Reddit. I got a 44/50 and I’m really hoping for an audition.
@FlameAlchemist congrats on your medal, and yeah, I took the online test!! Just checked the answers on Reddit (didn’t know that was a thing, thank you) and I got maybe 45-46 of em right so im excited although my bf also took it w me and im pretty sure he was copying my answers so they might be like “oh two people w the same IP address and roughly the same answers” and disqualify both of us idk (but his answers were 10 or so seconds slower than mine so if they grade it on a time based points system then I might still b good)
also fun fact i almost got on who wants to be a millionaire! kids edition last year (got to the final interview stage) but they haven’t called me again and im pretty sure ill age out of it in a few months so meh whatever
