High School Class of 2021

@Bombgirls Welcome!

I self studied AP Psychology, and it is horrendously easy. (The exam’s on Monday btw) People are saying it’s a vocab test, but I didn’t memorize a word and I got an 88/100 on the 2012 test. So I suggest you take it - it’s really fun too!

Summer I might volunteer, but honestly nothing else.

@Bombgirls hi!! over the summer i’m taking two online summer courses (English II H and Health H), volunteering at a coding camp for 8-12 yr olds for 2 weeks, and doing this cool leadership training program that a) gives me a HS credit + volunteer hours and b) then allows me to sit on a county board where i get even more volunteer hours. also i’m going on a cruise and might be taking more drivers’ ed

@CavsFan2003

To be fair, mine aren’t that bad either. I guess I’m just overreacting a bit.

@chrysalism

Your school lets you skip English 2 for Sophomore Year? Is it for an additional free period or just an additional class?

@wontonandrice it’s so i can take another class and not have to stay an extra hour during sophomore year! if we want to take ap bio, our school requires us to have anatomy & physiology honors either as a prerequisite or taken concurrently; i had no time to take it this year, and if i have to take it next year i don’t want to stay an extra hour because it would mean missing a lot of my extracurriculars. english ii h is just the easiest class to take online bc all it is is readings and essays

and im taking health h because the state requires us to have one pe/health class to graduate + our school doesn’t even offer one lol

Here from the Class of 2020 thread! I want to encourage you all to take AP courses. I realized this year that I have grown the most as a student from the course selection that I made this year. It’s help me prepare for next year! I will be taking 4 APs as a junior. Good luck to you all, as sophomores!

So do you guys think AP Music Theory is better or Symphonic Band?

I’m doing Level 10 for Piano, so it covers some college music stuff. Our Symphonic Band section leader is a Sophomore and he’s really good, so I want to have that early “planning” to beat him. Which one would you pick?

Sounds like you’d rather take Syphonic Band!

Super nervous today!!

Today, I was talking to my friend in Earth Science who wrestles and decided I’m going to go to the club practice today. I was recruited at my old school by my Spanish teacher and the wrestling coach to wrestle but I never did, I focused more on basketball (and had to move anyway). I’m gonna be the only girl on the team- that’s super nervewracking. At my old school, at least we had a special girls team in a girls tournament. Oh well! I’m excited and nervous.

@CavsFan2003 good luck, that’s so cool!!

@wontonandrice yeah it does sound like you’d get more out of symphonic band from how you describe them, and one extra AP (especially in a traditionally extracurricular subject) doesn’t matter more than your interest level.

lmaoo i wish i could take ap music theory but i don’t have the time :frowning: i might junior year but i’m being persuaded to take 2 sciences instead which is honestly probably the better option.

I’m super excited!!

I got into the Loyola Chicago Summer Scholars program today! I know it’s not a super prestigious program but I really love the LUC campus and it seems like such a fun school and I LOVE Chicago!!

My friend got into Brown’s Summer program, and I’m curious as to how impressive this may looks, because the Summer Programs at Ivy Tier Universities cost an arm and a leg.

Hey @CavsFan2003 are you going to apply to tams next year? Cuz your taking the SAT so I assumed it would be tams. Also don’t worry about your sat score cuz I know kids who got a 1100 and got into different residential high school programs.

@chanoo2003 No, I’m applying to the Indiana equivalent of TAMS!

@wontonandrice if your friend is also a rising sophomore then brown precollege definitely looks good!! for upperclassmen there are generally more selective-admission/lower-cost programs available that might be more impressive if you’re looking for prestige, but there isn’t a lot open to 9th/to an extent 10th graders, and i’ve heard great things about brown precollege in comparison to things such as duketip and cty.

unrelated - just got my sat mathematics 2 subject test score back and i got a 780 which i am stoked about! it’s not amazing and i might retake next year but i’m super proud because i was really ill the day of the test and was medicated out of my mind, so i was worried i’d do a lot worse haha. gonna take the biology subject test next year.

also we have 4 days left of school + we’re still doing work as usual (most finals = over, but i have like 3 presentations as well as tests/hw) and i’m literally going to Die

@chrysalism That’s a great Math 2 score! I’d be over the moon if I got that!

@AtomicMan576 aah thank you sm!! it is definitely good and i['m pretty happy with it, the only reasons i’d consider retaking are a) because i know i could have gotten an 800 if i wasn’t so sick the day of and b) the percentiles for that specific test are deflated bc so many math whizzes take it, so an 800 only puts you in the 80th percentile and a 780 puts you around the 65th i think

What’s TAMS?

I’m looking for a backup plan for if I don’t get a summer job I signed up for, so I looked into summer programs in my county and found out that because I’m FARMs there would be a discount on original credit courses in the summer. There isn’t really any core classes I would like to take over the summer so I was thinking of taking Spanish 2 because I enjoy the language so far and it would be nice to reach AP Spanish 5. Do you think I should do it? The cost would be a little over 300 with the original at around 450.

@wontonandrice It’s not presitigious… at all. They literally advertise it through emails to all high school students. It’s basically a way for Brown to make money.
