High School Class of 2021

^^ Edit I forgot an EC oops (summer is getting to me lol)

I am also a part of the Superintendents Educational Equity Advisory team where me and 4 other high school students meet once a month with district teachers, admins, and parents to discuss ways to improve the environment of our school community.

College Confidential really makes me feel like a failure… @leprechaun103 those are amazing extracurricular stories me but just “basic” to you… good job though

@leprechaun103 the superintendents EEA sounds super cooll! also all of your ECs (outside of maybe STUCO unless you lead your school through something remarkable) should be fine if you excel at them. Also do what you love NOT what looks good on college apps because if you do what you love then you will truly excel. Sounds to me like you’re into science and music and there’s a ton of resources for science/music competitions (here’s one with a fairly comprehensive list: https://cty.jhu.edu/imagine/resources/competitions/science.html).

@Potter3846 @wistfulwords Thank you so much! This helped a lot.

Did anyone else take the July ACT?

@bwhs2021 what math did u take freshman year?

@whoknowswhere25 I took Algebra 2 with Trigonometry last year.

Has anyone gotten their schedules yet?

Oh. My. God.

Just a warning: This is going to be a long post.

So remember my rant at the beginning of June about the uncertainty of my future? My future’s pretty certain now. That Hail Mary I threw to the tiny college worked. I got in.

Some of you may have heard of the Program for the Exceptionally Gifted at Mary Baldwin University. It has a 6% acceptance rate. I was conditionally accepted on July 3rd, with official acceptance contingent on ACT scores. Yesterday, when scores came out, I was officially accepted.
I needed a 28 to get in. I got a 34 (English: 35, Math: 32, Reading: 36, Science: 31).

I will be free from the red tape of my school district when I drop out on August 17th. I couldn’t be more excited.

I’ll be triple majoring in Political Science, Economics, and International Affairs with double minors in Sociology and Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution.

With all of that being said, I guess I no longer belong in this thread. I’ll reply to people who have questions, but then I’m gone.

Go Fighting Squirrels!

@bwhs2021 congratulations! best of luck to you! :slight_smile:

@bwhs2021 congrats!

@leprechaun103 they’re super fun!! and it nice to know that all your hard work pays off eventually :smiley: I don’t want to give away my category bc I can be identified that way (and not many freshman attend ISEF, so it would be much easier to identify me) . Animal sciences is such a cool category, and I was honestly very interested in that category when I looking at the projects in it! You should look into it more :slight_smile:

@bwhs2021 wow congrats!! :slight_smile:

hey guys, im new here! i thought i would have you guys critique my schedule from last year and this upcoming year?? you’re all so smart so you’ll probably think im stupid but its worth a shot.

freshman year-
geometry honors
biology honors
english 1 honors
ap human geography(slight brag but i was the only freshman at my school to get a 5 on this test)
dance technique 1
creative writing 1 and 2

sophomore year-
algebra 2 honors
chemistry honors
english 2 honors
ap world history
dance technique 3 honors(skipped a year because im at a higher level than tech 2)
psychology 1 and 2

this will be my last year taking classes at the high school because im doing full time dual enrollment at our local college junior and senior year. i plan on getting my aa before i graduate high school and then going for a masters in psychology so that i can own my own practice one day!

if you can, you could replace psychology 1 & 2 with AP psychology. I took AP human and psych freshman year and I got a 5. There are plenty of people who take AP psych w/o psych 1&2. However, if it is a prereq, it’s fine.

its a prerequisite, unfortunately. my school isnt a very good one so im really limited in what advanced classes i can take. our ap program isnt very good, either, so thats why im going to do dual enrollment instead of more ap classes.

@ephemerally0 Foreign/World Language?

@clo2021 i took two years of spanish already and am taking 3 asl classes my junior and senior year at the college.

hiiii, sorry to just jump into this forum, but what do u guys think about my courses for soph year?
i’m definitely taking:
ap euro
honors chemistry
honors algebra 2
honors english 10,
honors adv mandarin 4
PE (required)
ap seminar
I have a extra slot in my schedule, but i’m not sure if i should take honors band or research in biology. basically, if I take research in bio, then i can take this genetic biology class that travels to compete in a competition. the thing thats holding me back from taking it is that it isn’t an honors class and i’m not sure if i even like biology that much lol. also, even tho its still early, im afraid about what colleges would think about me not continuing with band.

if you’re interested in science, or want to pursue a career in biology/medicine, biology would be the way to go
