High School Economics requirement ?

So now they're requiring an economics requirement for high school students? As a student from West Virginia , where economics is not even offered at my high school, majoring in computer engineering I find this highly unnecessary.

So how is this gonna work, am I going to be rejected right away because I don't have a semester of economics (how dumb is that) ? Or will I be accepted then notified I have to take a semester of economics over the summer at some community college (which is going to be a drag). I have never even heard of a school that requires a semester of a specific elective , that's not required for basic graduation.

If it is that big of a hassle , I probably won't even apply here ; although UT was one of my top choices . It's really disappointing though =/ , is there any exception for OOS students who don't have economics offered?

hmm not sure you should call you areas admission counselor and ask! ecnomics is required for almost every Texas high school, so thats why they require it!

They’ll understand. You’ll just have to take an economics class to clear it up. You might want to write a note about it on the application, though.

This is a new requirement this year. If you find out what the policy is for students whose high schools do not offer economics, please post it here; I’m sure others are wondering about this too.

I think that in California, admission to the UCs want you to have taken a year of one of the fine arts. It’s hard to guess what an out of state public will want! :)

Alright everyone find out abit more on it. This quote is taken from

[University of Texas alters admission requirements, responds to economic, social changes](http://evergreen.greenhill.org/index.php/news-mainmenu/students/272-university-of-texas-alters-admission-requirements-responds-to-economic-social-changes)

"Under option two, a student wishing to enroll at UT would take an economics course over the summer, most likely at a community college, to fulfill the requirement. The third option being offered by the University will only be available to this year’s applicant pool, and it will allow prospective stu*dents to take an economics class at Texas after enrollment.

Thus far, UT is the only school to officially add such requirements, although others may potentially follow its example."

I guess UT did this because of the bad economy at the moment, and want students to know more about what is happening.

" Admitted students who are not able to make up for missing requirements before enrolling at UT Austin will be able to do so after enrolling. "

I actually would like to take a course on economics anyways , so its all good  I would still write a note or something in resume explaining your situation and that you are willing to make up the credit by taking an economics course at the school.
