Last year, my speech was simply this:

Hi, my name is , and I’m running for _ of the class of _. Make sure you vote for me on May__. Thanks!

My school pre-records the speeches and plays them over a TV broadcast throughout the school during a selected time. Can I ask for a little bit more information on how you give the speech/ your personal character?

the speeches can be of any length, we perform them in our auditorium on stage in front of our whole grade. I’m viewed as somewhat of a class clown, not a goofball, just that I always seem to be making people laugh. For this reason it will be key that I include humor into my speech, but I can be serious when necessary. The main group of kids I need to swing to vote for me are the “goody-good” girls who want the most qualified/serious candidate to win.

honestly no one in high school cares about what you say in your speechs. What matters is how you say it. Be funny and act cool. Don’t ramble about all our qualifications, you’ll sound like a nerd.

Last year, our current class president gave a very funny and sarastic speech about why he was running. He was like “I’m running because being class president will look good on my college applica… umm wait. I meant I strongly care about my classmates and would love to serve them to make our senior year great.” He also hnded out tons of candy to eveyone before school and during lunch.

Yeah, I was just about to say what burgerbread said. I’ve been an ASB officer for two years, and I’ve overseen dozens of class officer candidates; be funny, creative, and do something that will make people remember your speech/your name and want to tell their friends about (and remember, so you need to do something so that when people who don’t really know you see your name on the ballot, they have a reason to vote for you). High school elections tend to be popularity contests, and you can use that to your advantage.

Here’s an example of a really good speech. We have certain days for each officer from a class to say their speech over the morning announcements, and the 2012 officer candidates ended up doing there’s on Wednesday (I think). That day, 2 of the 5 incumbents ended up having to take an AP test during announcements, so the other 3 decided to do one speech together; they all stood around the mic, acted like they were panicking, and said that their other 2 candidates were being held hostage by the AP proctors, and that if they were elected, they would do everything in their power to rescue those 2 so that they could continue class and school traditions and to make senior year as awesome as possible. Haha, it definitely was the buzz of the school that day.

Then maybe being funny isn’t the best idea. The only reason to be funny in this scenario is if you want to increase popularity I guess. You should truly find ways to help the school and make it a better place for learning (cliche).

But yeah, my friend ran for secretary and lost but his speech was the funniest out of all of them. He was like-“to be honest I really don’t even know what the job of secretary is supposed to do” and also, “you can’t spell the word secretary, without the words (firstname) (lastname).”

I am currently brainstorming ways to be funny with my friends as I type this. I’ll keep you up to date with any ideas I may happen to come across :)

Oh, and I just remembered something. There’s this girl who sang (really badly) her speech to Jay Sean’s “Down” and then the next year she sang it to another song. She lost both times. It was THE greatest laugh, however, so mad props to her XD

Hahah I feel bad for that girl, that’s probably so embarrassing. Please, if you think of any ideas for my situation (speech ideas/anything in general) let me know, because I’m running short atm =/ Thanks for all the help so far!
