I want to run for Student Council President this year and was wondering if anyone had any advice? Like what type of flyers get the most attention, what type of treats and buttons attract voters... what type of changes would people want at school. what people look for in their asb president, etc.

Do something really outlandish and funny during your speech. In fact, don't even make a lame speech, no one wants to listen. In my experience, the most effective campaigns have been gimmick-crazy.

This one kid at my school made all of these shirts saying "Napoleon is voting for [Their Name]" everyone went nuts because Napoleon Dynamite was really popular at the time. Right now Juno is really popular, so maybe run with that.

They gave shirts to a lot of kids, and they all wore them on "election day" and then the candidate did the Napoleon dance during their speech. They didn't really have a speech, they just said "I'm the one for the job, I'll do whatever I can, but our assemblies will be fun!" and doing the dance kind of solidified that promise.

People like funny. They don't like serious, drawn-out speeches for a high school election. T-shirts are more effective than buttons. Candy is more effective than anything, but make sure you make slips of paper with your name on the candy so they'll remember who to vote for. Target the freshmen--they don't know anyone, so if they at least know your name, they'll mark it when it comes time to vote.

But the key is funny. Trust me. And good luck!

One hilarious speech won me 3 class VP elections in a row. I never made signs or posters, never handed out candy or pins or anything. Just that one speech.

PM me if you want mine-I could care less as long if you use it, as you don't distribute it yourself later on.

It looks like a 2 minute speech, but my class started cheering/clapping/rioting halfway through and it took about 8 minutes to actually finish.

If you have a class of apathetic public school kids, then this is the speech for you.

at lunch on election day, i went around to cafeteria tables and introduced myself to the people, and asked if they'd vote for me. it worked, cuz i won and i would've otherwise lost for sure since the other girl knew WAY more people than me.

just make sure not to go asking your opponent's friends to vote for you haha.

Outstanding/hilarious speech is a must.
Say a bunch of smart things so the nerds take you seriously. And then win over the 99% of the remaining student body by seeming much cooler and funnier than anyone else they've ever met.

Wow thank you all for your help!! I really don't do funny, or at least I've never tried so any tips about that would be great.

I think the T-Shirt Idea is pretty great, but it sounds expensive. I will definitely check that out though!

I've been trying to introduce myself to more freshman and random people throughout my school in hopes that they'll remember me come election day! This was all great advice! Thank you so much!

wow, i've decided to run for asb prez as well, and it's scary because the girl against me has had her hat in the ring ever since she stepped on campus. it's going to be one hec*k of a campaign!

The day before or on the day of the election, go around campus and introduce yourself to groups of students that you don't know or talk to often. This should help out as well as make posters and put them around campus. Make your name familiar among student.

Hey...I am running for asb president, and was wondering if you would send me a copy of your speech. I would only use it for idea for my own...I would be very grateful!!!
my email is kpcs2002@aol.com THANKS!

if you want to win, you have to bribe, blackmail, and coerce. You can also do a whispering campaign and mudslinging (APUSH FTW!). Or manipulate the crowd like other famous party leaders did, such as Hitler.
