I’m applying as a transfer student and I was wondering whether high school grades are more important than high school ranking. I went to a prestigious private school in a foreign country where I managed to graduate in the Top 10%, however, my grades are not that good.

Both are important, but I think ranking tells more. Some schools give out A’s like candy, while at others you might only have a handful of people with near-perfect grades, and I think the universities realize that.

Both are quite important, because grades show the amount of effort and work you put to get them, and ranking makes them relative. You could have gotten not very strong grades, but be ranked first, and that would look much better than someone who had very good grades but was ranked in the second quartile.
