High School Grades

Hi I didn't do my best in HS and I left early to go to a CC and I'm doing very well; I have a perfect GPA in challenging courses and I am also working to get some experience in the real world.

Now, I never took the SAT because I left HS my sophomore year, but I know I could do well on it, probably in the ranges of the top schools' admitted freshman-year students.

How much would my high school grades have an effect on admissions decisions keeping in mind that now I am serious and working towards getting the most out of my coursework?

I was thinking of applying to some higher-ranked schools, with the UCs always being an option since I am in-state, but I am just curious as to whether or not I'd have a change in heck to get in to non-UC schools that DO take into account both HS grades and the SAT.

Thanks in advance. . .

Yes all TOP schools, with the exception of the UC's and probably a few others will consider your HS gpa....however the more college courses you have the less weight will be placed on your HS stats.

However, it is not very likely the ivies and other top schools will completely overlook your HS stats because you have done well in High school .....but i still encourage you to apply..b/c you really never know

Anyone else?

Would it even be worth it to study really hard for the SAT's to do well and have a chance or should I just stick with UC LA and Berkeley?

A nice SAT score can't hurt, if you're talking like 660-710 range def go for it if you really want to go to a specific school. ur hs record will still play a role but the sat will help overshadow. gl

How do you "know" you can do well on the SAT? Have you taken practice tests and know the test?

I don't think you should be so quick to assume you can get a stellar score on the SAT even with proper preparation it is still extremely difficult to get those top scores. Not saying you can't do it but if you haven't already you should gauge how well you could do know and work on improving it to a score you are proud of. Good luck.

Yes I took practices sophomore year, but I am thinking I am just going to stick with UCLA or Berkeley.

that's certainly not a bad option, both of those schools are excellent and I wish I had that choice.
