Higher UC schools questions

hi ths is my first post on this forum. Anywayas, i am currently a sophomore 10th grade in high school and i had some questions regarding the higher Uc schools such as UC Berkeley and UCLA. Those are pretty much the schools i am looking at and i wanted to know what i should be doing in order to get accepted. I want to know things such as what grades and SAT scores, how much extra cirricular activities, community service, etc and such i should get.

Also, my current situation is that i really messed up my 1st semester in 10th grade. my gpa for this semester weighted was a 2.8 and unweighted a 2.3(1 ap class, and 2 honors classes). I know i need to step it up a lot and i am doing a lot better so far this semester. If i keep doing better, will i still have chance at these schools?

thanks

Probably not unless you somehow manage a 4.4 weighted your sophomore year.

You're off to a pretty grim start, because the average UCLA and Cal admits have over a 4.1. Still, you can offset your 1st semester grades by a very strong trend of improvement and high SAT scores. Good luck.

That GPA will probably kill you, unless you have some really, really awesome stuff (like 2300+ SAT, awards as hooks, great ECs). Sorry to say, but sophomore year's pretty important (not as important as junior, but much more important than freshman year), so UCLA and Berkeley are gonna be big reaches. Perhaps you could go to one of the other UCs (one who's more forgiving) and transfer, or go to community college and transfer. A 2.3 is a real bite. Maybe if you got extremely excellent grades (straight As, preferably) second semester + junior year, and explained your first-semester sophomore grades, it'd be more possible.

if you can write a killer essay explaining your lower gpa (emphasis on improvement and potential) that might help.

The UC's look ONLY at Soph and Jr grades, so they are critical. Given you Soph grades you should consider other UC's.

Sorry, in my first post I meant to say Junior instead of Sophomore. That, combined with a California residency, will give you a sliver of a chance at Cal/UCLA.

sorry csu for you...(no offence...)
but seriously..you are really offset......
if you really want UCs...perhaps Merced or Riverside for you...
