High School Honors Science Program at Michigan State ( HSHSP )

What are you guys’ stats?

@Audrae i think you can email only the application form. everything else has to be sent through the mail. I would recommend sending everything together, so Dr. Richmond doesn’t have to match your application to the rest of your stuff and I think everything has to be postmarked by march 15, but I’m sending in my application tomorrow just in case! Good luck!

Hey guys, what’s the likelihood of getting financial aid? Who else is applying for financial aid?

Anyone else from NY?

@aops100 Ya me, NYS

Alabama reppin in hard

@Holocaust Admissions is need-blind. I don’t think financial aid was an issue last year. Someone who needed more money emailed the director and got some. Someone who didn’t even apply for financial aid (but was in a single-income family) got aid too!

My essays are like 640 words and i simply cannot pare them down. I think i might just submit above the word limit.

re: stats, in my year everyone I knew well enough to know their SAT had >2300 and there were multiple perfect scores. don’t want to scare anyone but pretty much everyone had the applicant profile of a HYPSM admit (not that everyone got into every school, but we did end up with the majority of people at a HYPSM or other ivy)

Ouch. That does scare me a little

What if we took the SATs this March and the results come in late March? Can we send the scores in when they arrive?

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t have stellar scores. While most who are admitted do have amazing stats, there are always outliers who have an evident passion for science but may not have the best scores. You never know until you apply.

@Holocaust If your scores increase dramatically, I would consider contacting Dr. Richmond about an update to your application. I don’t suggest contacting her if it’s a minor change. I doubt it would affect your decision at all.

For the SAT scores, do they emphasize Math+Reading or do they look at the total score w/ writing?

@EtlnArcadiaEgo I’m sure they look at the entire thing, but how would anyone on CC know specifically what the admissions committee looks at?

For the letters of recommendation, “a restating of your accomplishments is not desired.”

Is it okay if the letters include a restating of my accomplishments anyway? Along with the ability, motivation, etc. stuff?

will anybody be willing to read over my essay?

I would

How strict is the deadline? I sent in my stuff today but I’m not entirely sure if it’ll arrive by the 15th - do they make exceptions or are they really strict about it?

@holocaust honestly it wouldn’t be ideal because it’s kind of redundant to what is already on your application. but if it’s the best you can manage, it’s fine. ms richmond isn’t going to be like “oh, I don’t like this rec letter. it will be put into the burning pile of undesirable applications in the franklin stove to keep us warm!”
