High School Honors Science Program at Michigan State ( HSHSP )

Hi, I am applying to HSHSP as well.
Looking at this thread, it seems that most projects are biology/chemistry/physics related. Are there are any chances to conduct research in mathematics?

Also curious, are there any research opportunities in computer science?

Why don’t you two contact the program coordinator instead of asking random people on a forum?

lol. ya you shuld ask dr. richmond she’s really nice :). i don’t remember any mathematics or computer science projects? do you phoenix?

does anyone know how quickly they inform you of your acceptance/rejection?

Hi guys I’m also applying to HSHSP.
Just wondering, how did you guys report your “official” standardized test scores…? Aren’t cb score reports just for colleges?

Nope, they can be used for scholarships and whatnot, too.

Copy the score packet they mailed to you and send it in (my school does this; it’s included with our transcripts).

The essays I wrote for this are so bad and awkward, I really hope that doctor person doesn’t put too much weight on it.
For the book one, I wrote about my Calculus book.
For the one about scientific interest I was very abstract and wrote some corny statements about how I wanted to improve the world through science. I didn’t incorporate any information about my extracurricular activities like that other poster managed to do.

What did you guys write for your essays?

Essays are usually, uh, pretty important.

For scientific interest, I would focus on something a bit more specific, even just a particular field. Specifics are good (isn’t that what they tell you on the SAT/ACT essays?).

you can take a picture of your scores from collegeboard and send it to her. also i wouldnt write about your calculus book lol… (is this the prompt that asked what book inspired you or something? thats what it was last year) i think essays are important…

If done creatively, I think writing about a calculus textbook is quite innovative, actually. A tad cheesy, yes, but it seems unique.

Unless, of course, everyone else is writing about their textbooks, too?

lol I’m not using my textbook. But cheesy wouldn’t really work against you here. If the way you think about math/solving any problems was altered in any way because of a class you took and the textbook you used, go ahead and write about it.

Anyone else applying to this program besides me?

I was, but I didn’t want to deal with the application. I already applied to four other programs and writing essays sucks. Especially as I’m supposed to be done with two for another program now but haven’t even started.

■■■.

I am, but I’m not really expecting much

Hey is anyone who has attended the program before, willing to look at my essay and offer their thoughts (and possibly correct for grammar and stuff).

Primarily how well my essay answers the question. I don’t think it does a very good job.

is anyone sending a resume in?
it doesn’t request one… but would it help?

Including an activities resume probably won’t hurt, but if they don’t ask for it, why bother? They might disqualify you for doing that (oh, the horrors!)

Seven a.m., waking up in the morning
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs
Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal
Seein’ everything, the time is goin’
Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushin’
Gotta get down to the bus stop
Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends (My friends)
Kickin’ in the front seat
Sittin’ in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?
It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend

Yo just wanted to give everyone the heads up that applications are due today.
