High school student freaking about getting into college

I am really worried about my chances of getting into a good college. I am going into my senior year of high school, I have a GPA of 3.8 and a sat score of 1230. I live in Washington state and I want to go to the University of Washington in Seattle. I go to a stem school and took ap computer science and got a 4 on the ap test, and I am going into calculus bc. I need to know do I have a shot getting into this university?

Look at the school 's common data set and at Naviance for your school. I suspect you will be okay but if you need to apply to a major, know that that can be more selective.

What does your guidance counselor say about it? If your school has been successful at placing students at U of W, then you need to meet with your GC ASAP to discuss how/why those students were successful; and to further discuss admission strategies for you.

Irrespective of how former students from your school did with admissions to U of W, you need to meet with your GC sooner rather than later to discuss admissions for U of W and other schools.

the problem is that my school is fairly new and I am in the first class to officially graduate from this school.

Getting into the university and getting into a competitive major (such as computer science) are two different things. However, if you are in-state, UW does visit college fairs and high schools all over the state. Talk to an admissions counselor! If you are able to get to the Seattle area, you can visit an on-campus information session as well.

As a senior, you should be creating your Coalition Application account and filling in the basics now, and starting to write your essays. The deadline will be in November.

Any chance you can increase your SAT scores? GPA looks OK but SAT is rather low. If you are interested in STEM majors, such as CS, Engineering, Biology, etc., the SAT score may hold you back.

You should be admitted to the Univ. of Washington if you are a state resident with your numbers. Nevertheless, be sure to apply to several more schools because nothing is guaranteed.

I’m a in state student that had similar numbers to you (3.78 unweighted gpa, 3.82 unweighted college gpa through running start and graduated with a AA in history, and a 1280 sat score) and I was waitlisted this past year. I appealed and got in, but just something to think about, especially since you’re a stem major. Really focus on writing a killer essay, maybe improve your sat score, and make sure you have a good amount of sports/extracurriculars.

May depend upon one’s major. @Psoriasis: Did you apply as a direct admit to a particular school or major ? If so, which one ?

@Publisher No I did not. I’m a history major, and no direct admit is available.

Then I think that you are likely to be admitted so long as you are a resident of Washington state. Nonetheless, you need to apply to several other schools as well as nothing is guaranteed.

2018 enrolled freshmen (vs. 2017) averages:

Unweighted GPA: 3.8 (3.79)
SAT Math: 685 (657)
SAT Reading and Writing: 644 (629)
ACT Composite: 29 (28)
