I am currently a junior and was wondering my chances of getting into UW from out of state. I’m from California and have a 31 on my act (I’m taking it again and hoping for a 32/33) and a 3.52 unweighted and a 3.7 weighted (should increase because of good grades in AP Classes this semester, probably to a 3.6 unweighted and 3.85 weighted.) I also have a lot of extra circulars such as 4 years on a top 3 variety team, 3 years on my schools newspaper staff, lots of volunteering, start of my own club, and started my own charity program. I’m scared I won’t get in because I’m out of state. Can I?
I also have a much higher 10-12 GPA (my freshman year sucked.)
My 10-12 is 3.95 now, but should increase to at least a 4.1 (weighted) Unweighted it’s a 3.7 and should increase to a 3.8.
You can use the current accepted student thread to see some of the stats. A big factor besides your academic credentials is your major. Direct admissions to computer science, engineering, and business are the most competitive.
UW = Washington, I assume and not Wisconsin.
If Washington, much may depend upon your desired major.
If you can continue to raise your GPA in rigorous courses, it may turn out okay. Definitely retake your ACT and try and get a higher score. If you get a ~33 on your ACT and your GPA keeps trending upwards, your chances look pretty good. Also, definitely choose your major carefully. Choose one that matches your extra-circulars or conforms with your past academic success and avoids the areas that you haven’t done well in. Good luck.
it really depends. a lot of students are accepted to UW general admission but not as a direct transfer to their major. in fact, i know plenty of students who weren’t allowed to study what they intended due to being rejected from their major. also, students who are taking all of the prereqs currently but uncertain if they will get into their major. imo, i’d find it hard to transfer to a college who won’t give me a definite yes or no as to if i could study what i wannted to .
uw is rough. but good luck
