I’m a junior in high school and currently have an unweighted gpa of a 3.763, a weighted of 4.597 and am in the 45th percentile in my grade. My current ACT score is a 21 (I’m retaking soon).
My extracurriculars are being the secretary/treasurer of my language honor society, archery for 5 years and counting, HOSA, FCCLA and newspaper.
I’m super nervous because I really want to get accepted. Any idea what my chances are currently?
With that ACT Score, it’s a little bit tough.
U of Washington’s ACT Average is around 25-26, so with that score you’re a little under their 25th percentile scores.
However, seeing that you want to retake it, make sure you practice well for it.
As for you GPA, I’ll quote something I found on CollegeSimply:
“You will need exceptionally good grades to get into University of Washington Seattle Campus. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at University of Washington Seattle Campus was 3.75 on the 4.0 scale indicating that primarily A- students are accepted and ultimately attend. If your high school GPA meets these requirements, there is a good chance you will be accepted as UW-Seattle accepts 53% of students who apply.”
So, keep working hard to keep your grades good and improve your ACT. Then, you’ll have a solid chance.
Here is some more recent information that may help you assess your chances:
Washington’s Common Data Set reports the unweighted GPA of enrolled freshmen in 2016 was 3.78. Middle 50% ACT of enrolled freshmen in 2016 was 26-32.
The Common Data Set also reports that rigor of secondary school record, academic GPA, and application essays are “very important,” and standardized test scores, ECs, talent/ability, first generation, volunteer work, and work experience are “important.” Also “considered” in making admissions decisions are character/personal qualities and state residency.
Thus, your unweighted GPA and rigor (as evidenced by your weighted GPA) are good. Keep up the good work. If you can get your ACT up to the 26-32 average range of enrolled students, that would help your chances significantly.
The admission rate in 2016 was 45% (WA residents: 62:9%; OOS: 43.3%; international: 29.9%), and it will probably be about the same in 2017,
Good luck!
