High School To College Rates...

When I got my transcript it said 100% go on to four year universities. which was kind of a bummer for me because now adcoms are going to hold me to impossibly high standards! I'll get over it...

Wow. S's former HS has only 59% going to 4-y college, and list only 1 NMF. That data seems low to me

Son's school has only one commended scholar, no Finalists or Semi-Finalists. Seems a little odd, and I'm not sure it's accurate. Even if "only" 41% go on to a 4-year school, I know there are very bright kids at the school. I'm not sure how accurate homefair.com's stats are, but they do seem to have the other stuff right.

Find out from your high school what is on your school's profile as a number of high schools do place the information in the school profile.
I would also suggest checking the board of ed website for your city you may be able to find the information there.

At D's h.s. 95% go to 4 year schools and 2% go to 2 year schools.

lderochi -- I checked out the web site, and found it fascinating! According to it, my kids’ school sends 22% to a 4-year school
35% to two year school (our local community college is very popular around here!)
2% to business/tech school.

Then again, we are a semi-rural, mid-west, school of about 1000 kids in four grades. The average ACT score is 21. Wow! Maybe the 27 that my daughter scored was better than I thought.

Peg

peggy: At the school I mentioned, the average ACT score was 15.6.

I found the statistics from my high school grad. class:

Graduate Intentions: School
Postsecondary degree granting institution 72.5%
Postsecondary non-degree granting institution 6.4%
Obtain a job 17.7%
Join the military 3.3%

For a 2-page document, our hs profile is quite detailed - it's interesting to wonder what adcoms might make of it. For our mid-size school in a (mostly) upper middle class suburb of a small city, 80 percent of 2005 grads enrolled at 4-year colleges and 12 percent at 2-year schools. (This is several percentage points lower than in previous years - don't know why.) Two-thirds of the grads who chose 4-year schools remained in New York state, while one-third headed elsewhere.

Interestingly, 99 percent of the most recent class took the SATs (average score: 1130). One-quarter took the ACT (average score: 25).

And thanks, iderochi, for the link to the homefair site - it's definitely worth a look.

I was shocked to see that our local HS had the numbers it did:
4yr - 52%
2yr - 10%
Tech - 5%
AF - 4%
WF - 24%

Only 63% took SAT's and 2% the ACT's.

My S went the private school route and there it's 99% go onto 4Yr schools, the <1% - gap

The homefair site was very informative - thanks DDMom

I just looked at our school profile and was surprised. We are an upper middle class suburban high school with about 400 in each high school grade. About 74 percent go on to 4 year colleges and 20 percent to
2 year schools. Last year we had 4 Merit Finalists and 70 Commended.
I'm surprised that more kids do not go to 4 year schools.
