Hey would anyone like to share some items that you guys buy that help you study or just help you organize, etc. Where is the cheapest place to buy them from. (school supplies, headphones, binders, stuff like that)
A 2 inch binder, dividers, a few folders (make sure it’s not the paper kind, those tear so easily), and other stuff that are probably on your school’s supply.
Buy your supplies from Walmart.
I always get index cards – quizlet is great but physically making the index cards is the best way for me to remember things. Then, I always have a file folder (i had mine for 2 year before it got so broken that I needed to replace it [which is what I did this year]) for worksheets and i put any notebooks that i may have inside the file folder. I don’t like binders, so I usually have 2 notebooks and for any other classes i just put my notes directly in the file folder. (the 2 notebooks are for the science I’m taking and for history).
i get everything from staples or the dollar store because believe it or not, it’s much more cheap in the store than on amazon or any online retailer.
as for headphones, i’ve had the same pair of headphones for 3 years and they’re still going strong. they’re the ones that go with my samsung phone. i honestly just recommend any earbuds that have a rubber cap on each bud rather than the ones that are like the apple headphones (w/o a rubber cap).
also, always have 2 pens, 1 pencil, and a highlighter when you go to school. all the extra stuff that you find people on youtube posting is just what it is – extra. if you really really want to be prepared, get whiteout (not the liquid kind), because that’s super helpful in any class.
Flexion pens?
I got a planner app on my phone that helps me organize all of my classes and assignments. You can set due dates with notifications. Plus it’s free
MUJI PENS ALL THE WAY! They’re the best pens I’ve ever worked with since they have three precise tips you can choose from ( 0.38, 0.5, and 0.7). They’re kind of a little expensive if you plan on getting a lot of them ($1.25 on average for one pen) but they’re worth it in my opinion.
I always go to Staples. Not sure if it’s the cheapest, but I like it best. I always get:
- Highlighters. Enough said.
- A planner. I write down homework, quizzes, and tests for each class.
- A folder. Not a file folder or accordion folder, just a basic folder. I keep all assignments and papers in there.
- Binders. Every Friday, I go through the aforementioned folder and file away papers I’m done with. I keep the binders at home so the papers are available if I need them, but I’m not carrying around dead weight in my backpack.
- Notebooks. One for each class. Preferably, they all look different so I don’t confuse myself.
I agree with what everyone is saying. A planner is hands down the best thing you can do for yourself. On top of a planner what I like to do is write on a sticky note on my papers, projects, quizzes, and tests of the week and put it either on my computer or on the week page of my planner. It makes my eyes go to it so if I were to have a quiz on Friday and I put that on my sticky note every time I open my laptop or planner I have a reminder.
As for folders I personally have a folder for every single on of my classes and then an extra one. For one side of the folder I put my homework or other important stuff (i.e. study material for an upcoming test) and then on the other side is class work or handouts. The extra folder is for handouts maybe from an advisor or homeroom teacher that does not pertain to any of your academic stuff.
Index cards are the best thing for you. It is statistically shown that if you write something down it is same as reading it 7 times. I personally don’t like binders because they can be so big and bulky.
My “planner” was just a cheap $0.17 spiral notebook (80pg) from Walmart. I bought a ton of them. I always kept one out on the table with me. I could quickly write down hw/things to do before I forgot or if the teacher said it very quickly at the end of class. And I could tear out paper to use as loose leaf-- cheaper than $1 packs of loose leaf (100pg)…
But it depends on what you value more… Do you like to be organized and need classy, expensive planners? I was cheap on paper obviously, but I splurged on mildliners (highlighters) and pilot g2 pens because I “need” nice writing instruments to take notes. Maybe you need different colored folders for each subject. Maybe you need one large 2 in binder for all of your classes. Budget accordingly.
Try what everyone suggested and you’ll find what works best for you eventually…
I like colored pens for taking notes.
Where is the cheapest/ best place to buy binders from. And do you suggest 1 binder for each class (probably 1inch or 1.5inch)
I usually get colored binders from Walmart, Staples, etc. (a different color for each class so it stands out to you, and you won’t accidentally grab the wrong binder for A/B day classes).
I think 1.5 inch or 1 inch will work, but you will definitely have to clean them out every quarter/semester!!
Also, for the first day of school just carry around some pencils, lined paper, and a folder for all of your classes. Then, go through the syllabuses your teachers hand out and get supplies they recommend. This prevents you from buying too many extra supplies! (But a planner is a definite must)
