I wanted an opinion on wether or not it's worth the effort to take higher level courses 9like I.B. or A.P.) If thye just kill your grades. My school only offers I.B. or C.P. classes.
C.P. classes are really low level clasees that have like 30 students or more in them, while I.B. classes have like 6 to 10 kids in them. You get one on one learning and stuff (supposedly) but the teachers don't help, they can't teach and whatnot so all our grades suffer (like I used to get high B's and A's but now it's like low C's, B and A...and maybe even a D O__O ). Teachers laugh while they fail us and say "Welcome to I.B. and stuff."

So is it worth it? Have any of you gone through this?
(If you take any type of class your opinion is welcome).

My school has a 3 tier class system on an 8 point scale (honors/AP are worth 8, most regular classes are worth 6, and gym/health/low classes are worth 4)
in my case, getting a B in a level one is better than an A in a level 2, so there is an incentive to move up. There are many flaws… Such as receiving the same gpa for honors physics (a joke) and AP physics (very difficult). Oh well that’s life. I have 5 APs right now and it isn’t too bad. Don’t take easy classes if they don’t challenge you. Otherwise you will never grow academically

I’m in AP stats, spanish, and psych, and honors world lit and cp physics and guess what? World lit is KILLING ME i have a B- average. So it all depends. Sounds like your teachers suck, i’m sorry for you Take anything you’re interested in, but i think the whole AP system is flawed (i.e., memorizing hundreds of bold words doesn’t make me a “4: very proficient.”) they don’t work well

@Bdangle
I wish that I had world lit. It’s one of my fave. English and literature are like the only things I can do in life lolz.^_^

Yah, the whole AP thing is why my school got rid of it.

Does AP have all of those learner outcome stuff, like the whole if you get into our program we can transofmr you into a new person with these attributes!! ?
I always find that stuff funny.

@IvyStriver2,
I’ve never heard of a tier system before with scales and stuff. Can you explain it to me? I’m curious lolz.

Yah, it’s true, higher level courses do bring up GPA’s!! but remember colleges bring them back down to what they are supposed to be and then recalculate (at least from what iv’e heard).

What electives do you take? I wasn’t offered any this year =/

@MIThopeful16

Everybody says they could get higher grades of they tried lolz. But when do we know that we have reached our highest point of trying? I never know. And i’m always to tired to find out lolz.

well my Honors World Lit teacher is awesome but she went to UNHampshire, then Harvard extension school (i know…?) and then Yale for graduate and she grades as such, Last year in AP Language and Composition my lowest essay grade was an A- (I’m pretty good at writing), and now my highest was an A (my college essay), and my average is a B or B-… * me!

ugh and AP Spanish and Psych are just so much work. Spanish is hard but I’m actually learning stuff. Psych isn’t hard but it’s sooo much work. stats is literally the easiest class I have ever taken. Except the midterm was wicked hard today…dammit

I’m a HS sr right now, and throughout HS I’ve always had the mind set that colleges care a LOT about course rigor, and I never really thought about the long term when it came to my GPA. I always thought about what colleges would “like” the most, and not really what I actually could handle and get good grades in. Needless to say, my course rigor is pretty good (not in comparison to CC standards lol), but my GPA has suffered a lot. To tell you the truth, I wish I hadn’t taken some of the honors classes I took a few years ago. A lot of scholarships totally disregard course rigor and for academics just look at GPA + SAT/ACT, which frustrates me because I feel that I’ve put in more work to get my lower GPA than maybe another guy who has a high GPA, but slacked in course rigor, and will have a better chance of getting the scholarship. /rant kind of.
