Highschool vs CC ?

yea i have talked with them they are open to all options, btw you said you did something like this before, but you found out the hardway? What happened?

Nosx-

There was some personal stuff involved that I don't really want to get into, but I think the biggest problem was that I didn't have any support--from parents, the school, etc. I had moved out when I was 16 and supported myself. My junior year was a nightmare with working a full-time job, a part-time job, going to highschool full-time, and taking a college course. I had a few people tell me that I should just skip my senior year and apply to college instead. They all told me that with my stats (which weren't phenominal, especially by College Confidential standards but were pretty good) I shouldn't have too much difficulty getting into some decent schools and getting financial aid.

I didn't have a lot of time to apply, so I was only able to complete a few applications. I received letters back from all of them; all of the letters were along the lines of: we're impressed with your record up to now, but we are concerned that you have not completed your senior year or an early graduation program.....etc, etc. My highschool refused to release my records and refused to grant me early graduation even though I had fullfilled all of the requirements--without my parents I didn't really have much of a standing.

I've managed to start a successful career despite everything, and I've been taking the "long road" to get my degree in a career that I'm actually interested in. I just want to caution anyone to get all of the information before deciding to graduate early. I'm sure that with the support of your parents, and with the information that you get from the colleges, you probably won't have nearly as difficult a time as I did. Just don't make the mistake of thinking that it is as simple as applying to colleges early. It isn't a complex as I've made it sound (my apologies), but you do need to do your research.

Hope all of this has helped. I wish you luck on what you decide, and even though it probably hasn't sounded like it up until now, I can understand your desire to just start college now so I say go for it if you can.

nosx - why don't you try posting on the parents' forum or college admissions forum and see what other experiences people have had with early entrance? Both of those forums are higher volume than this one. There are definitely people who have done it successfully. I can certainly see demingy's point that you would probably require support from your parents and school. Have you maxed out your school? It sounds like you have since you are taking so many CC courses as a junior. If that's the case, you should get more support from both your parents and your school than someone who was simply sick of high school but had plenty of courses left to take.

Hmm well I am just doing CC courses (4 of them) and no highschool work at the moment. So still, i dont know what to do.

Stay and get your diploma

Dual enroll. I'm going to get a high school diploma simultaneously with my AA degree.

Why was this dragged up from 2004???

IDK ask SwallowedGum. It's helpful since I'm dual enrolling full time for my senior year.

Oh, this is a new record I have seen for thread resurrections in terms of age.

Lol I read that entire thing and then realized it was from 2004. I wonder what he ended up doing.

^ Same here.

EDIT: According to his myspace link, he went got an Associates and now is at UMich.

Looks like UMich for the op. (too lazy to go past the first page of recent posts but they're all circa 2006 on the UMich board).
