Hints from interviewers

Hi,
I wanted to start a thread discussing potential hints given by interviewers at interviews.
What could a good sign be?
Bad sign?
Are interviewers always optimistic about your admission?
Did they sometimes explicitly say something related to your chance of admission?
How would one know if his or her interview went well?

No sign. At most schools the extent that any interviewer will go to is that he/she will say that XXX is a great fit for you and go on to say that he liked you. They are NOT always optimistic about admission. Though this is not a boarding school it still pertains to the subject. I suggest you read this article...

Many people would be surprised that most interviews do not go exceedingly well, on CC (yet again) we see amazing interviews.

What about saying the school needs students like you or saying you are in good position and similar things?

Meh. That is a good sign, but it just does not mean too much.

I suggest you read the posts by baseballmom regarding interviewer’s comments. They do not translate into an acceptance, even when they are wildly enthusiastic. I think a lot of times the interviewers may be genuinely impressed with you, but they may be more impressed by the next person who walks through the door. And, until they see your entire application, they don't really know if they will be able to support your application. That said, I think a positive interview means you have one less thing to worry about.
