Hispanic In Ivy Legue?

Okay so I'm a current High School Junior interested in possibly attending a school like Cornell, since I have been getting a lot of their recruitment mail recently. I just wanted to see my chances of really getting in at all..

•Race: Hispanic (also, does this really matter? I know schools are required to have a certain percentage of diversity, but I wasn't sure if Ivy Leagues even cared?)

•GPA: Unweighted 3.75, Weighted 4.25
•ACT: 28
•SAT: TBD
•PSAT: Math: 55, Reading: 56, Writing: 56
•Class Rank: Top 25%

•AP/ Honors Classes taken/will take:
AP European History
AP US History
AP Language & Composition
AP Literature
AP French 5
AP Biology
AP Government
Honors Pre-Calculus
Honors Biology
Honors Chemistry
(& about 4 other Pre-Ap classes)

•Extra Curricular:
Gold Community Service Award
Silver Community Service Award
National Honor Society
5+ leadership positions in clubs
Orchestra
Freshman soccer team
Part of leadership clubs & conferences
Thespian Society
Spanish/Conversational French
2 Academic Letters from my HS

I know my chances are lowered because of my ACT & GPA. I'm not expecting Harvard or Yale, but I was just curious to see Cornell (who has a 16% acceptance rate in contrast to Harvard's who's at 6%) would even be a possibility.

Thank You. :)

You have some to improve that ACT score… And who knows, your essay may save you. So pour your passion into it.

I think the fact that you are hispanic would probably help, even though it is a weird thing to think about. And as the previous poster said, if you have a good essay then that improves a lot. I’d say go ahead and apply and see what happens, but make sure you apply to a variety of schools just in case. Good luck!

Aim for at least a 32 on the ACT, or above a 2150 SAT, and you should have a much better chance. Affirmative action in Ivy Leagues only makes a difference if you are already as competitive as other applicants. For example, if you have the same stats and merit as 10 other Caucasians and Asians, then affirmative action would give preference to you, since Hispanics are typically underrepresented in Ivies. The best thing you can do right now (in my opinion) is to improve your standardized test scores. The rest should fall into place.

Yeah, if you improve your ACT/SAT score, you would have a chance. I’d would still be a reach, but being Hispanic does help. Btw I’m not sure, but I think quotas in affirmative action were outlawed in Fisher v. university of Texas.
