Hispanic Scholarship Fund 2022

Not really defending them, I just don’t think anything nefarious is going on. Also, don’t want people to get discouraged and not apply for something that may be very worthwhile for them to apply for. I think of all the scholarships out there, their process may need some improvements, but my daughter didn’t think the application was that difficult, and they seem to be far more transparent than other people offering scholarships. Some of which students never even hear back from at all. As for every single kid got waitlisted here and on Reddit - not every single kid, because my daughter was not waitlisted. I took a look at Reddit and saw at least 5 students who received the scholarship and were not waitlisted - and I did not read the whole thread (and there are probably multiple threads). But in general, I have noticed that CC threads for the class of 2022 had much less traffic than the class of 2020 and class of 2021. So that may be why we don’t see a lot of people saying they are scholars who aren’t waitlisted here. Less than 10 people have contributed to the conversation at all. For example, if you look at thread from 2 years ago, there are at least 13 people saying they were waitlisted, but there were also 6 people who were not waitlisted and a bunch of people saying they have received no info, which means they probably didn’t make the Scholar cut. By the end of the thread, 2 more people pipe in wondering when will they receive their money, so that makes 8 recipients and one person on the waitlist announces that he was notified he would be receiving a scholarship. By comparison, we only had 6 people state they were waitlisted, one or two who never confirmed they found an email one way or the other, and one not waitlisted. So, we had a lot less people involved in the conversation. Anyway, I’m sorry you feel it was a waste of time.

Ok, I can now say as of today, my daughter’s scholarship amount has been confirmed as well as the sponsor of her scholarship. This round is fast. Only has until Friday to upload a thank you note or video and scholar pledge. I was hoping for more based-on cost of school, but I am sure our income was the ultimate driver of the final number. But still better than nothing. From what I have seen of past years, payments will come sometime between late January and early March. So, check email or accounts to see if it is looking for a note. (Account will say to check email for amount and sponsor). BTW, this is the earliest notification I have seen based on previous years - past several years have been between 12/5 and 12/20 notification.

Congratulations, my daughter was also notified yesterday that she received a scholarship. She was initially waitlisted but it seems that additional funds are now available. She has to finish the two last steps before next Friday.

My daughter had been waitlisted for the HSF designation. She received an email yesterday saying
“We are pleased to announce that a spot in the 2022 HSF Scholar Program class became available and we would like to invite you to officially become an HSF Scholar.” She completed the scholar pledge acceptance form and we will see if she gets a scholarship now.

Also, is this a one time designation or a one year designation? I don’t really understand their timeline. So she is a scholar for this school year 22-23 only or ? Do they have to reapply each year to keep the HSF designation and keep getting the benefits for mentorships, internships, job opportunities? She is currently a freshman in college. We are excited because her visualization degree program requires a “semester away” junior year and she has been told it is hard to get an internship for the semester away. We looked at the list of corporate partners and Disney and Warner Brothers is on the list! So maybe this can help her get the internship she needs for her semester away.

From what I have read, they are Scholars forever, once they complete the process. But in terms of scholarship money, they have to apply every year.

BTW - I did say that waitlisted people should complete the process because a bunch of waitlisted people in previous years received scholarships. Did the email have a sponsor in it? Congratulations to your daughter and liasmom’s daughter too!

I don’t know if it did this in previous years, but after my daughter uploaded the letter and completed the pledge, the following text appeared on her screen. Thank you for submitting! Your scholarship check will be sent by December 31, 2022. Actually, I think the last couple years, people talked about having to give info to Wells Fargo and receiving EFTs.

Thanks you for the valuable information you’ve provided everyone. I just read the entire thread going back to July and not once did I feel it was a waste of time. Your words of encouragement and positivity is noticeable even though others may not have thought so. My daughter got an email 2 days ago regarding the HSF Scholar Program Acceptance Form which she completed and is now waiting to hear back after 12-2 which is the deadline for completion. It appears that even though our children were all waitlisted at some point, there are several designations and it goes to show that they’re at different stages and have not been overlooked. Congratulations to everyone!

Thank you. That makes sense. No sponsor name. She wasn’t waitlisted for a scholarship like others were . She was waitlisted just to be a Hispanic scholar at all. Apparently they only award even just the national scholar designation to a limited number of people and scholarships to even less. They designate some as scholars and waitlist others. They give some scholarships and waitlist others. And as spots open up they move people up front the waitlist. So she was waitlisted just to get a Hispanic scholar designation and now that she is a Hispanic scholar she is eligible for the benefits including scholarship opportunities. She plans to apply again when the new app opens.

Yes, my daughter’s email mentions the sponsor and also after completing the website process, the notification appeared that she will receive the $500 check by December 31st.

Exact same for our daughter.

Can anyone give us an idea of scholarship amounts? Information says up to $5000 I believe, but my guess is many get $1000 or less. We are more interested in this for the connections it might provide, but just curious. And do they send the check to the student’s school or directly to the students? Thank you very much.

Sorry, been a busy couple weeks. I haven’t checked to see if there has been any uptick in talk on Reddit, but from the comments on here, of those who have said, it seems like 3 people have mentioned receiving $500. The others either did not say or did not know yet. HSF sends the check directly to the students.

That being said, my daughter’s check arrived in the mail today. She also received a new email today which had some 2022 specific numbers in it:

• 2022 HSF Scholar class is comprised of 10,000 outstanding students from 50 states, over 2,500 cities, attending 898 institutions, selected from a pool of 59,222 applicants

My daughter received an email today with confirmation of her scholar designation. Remember she had been waitlisted for the scholar designation (not waitlisted for a scholarship) and she was moved off the waitlist and offered the slot that had opened up in the class of 10,000 2022 HSF scholars. She completed the pledge a few weeks ago and now they confirmed she is a 2022 HSF scholar. Additionally they said

  • Finally, while all current funding has been awarded, should additional funding become available before March 31, 2023, you will be notified to complete an HSF scholarship acceptance form to receive funding.

As a reminder, if you are eligible, we encourage you to apply to the 2023 HSF Scholar Program to be considered for funding next year. The 2023 HSF Scholar Program application opens Sunday, January 1, 2023, and closes Wednesday, February 15, 2023, 5:00 PM PT.

To be clear, students have to reapply for the HSF designation each year? Or once they are given the designation, they are always HSF scholars and only need to apply if they are seeking a yearly financial award? If anyone could clarify, it would be appreciated.

Did anyone attend a HSF reception? What are those like?

Thanks!

They reapply for funding each year. Once an HSF scholar always an HSF scholar.

“ you are now a member of a nationwide network of HSF Scholars and Alumni that you will be able to access today and in the future.”

My daughter received her check in the mail yesterday.

Agree - the Scholar status is forever, but if the student wants to try to receive funds each year, they have to reapply. They can apply every year of college and in grad school as well.

Here we go again… my daughter just completed the HSF 2023 app phase 1!

Are the scholarships need based only? Also - I noticed that they list places your heritage can be from to qualify as"hispanic". Puerto Rico was missing from this list. Does this seem accurate or has anyone who is PR applied to this before?

When completing the application, Puerto Rican is one of the options when answering the question about Hispanic Heritage.
