I’ve been thinking long and hard about which major to pursue, and right now, I’m considering History (Military). I did a little quick research on what jobs would be available to a history major, but I didn’t find anything. Any history majors on here or does anybody know?

I did not major in history, however, I can tell you that your major really does not dictate what job you have in the Air Force. You can go into almost any career field from any major. The exceptions are areas such as engineering; chances are, you won't end up as an astronautical engineer as a history major. ;)

P.S. Don't waste too much brain power trying to decide on a major now. You'll have over a year from the time you arrive to pick one, and even after that, it can be changed. Plus, a pretty good number of people don't actually major in what they come to the Academy thinking they are going to major in.

Thanks! Thing is, I've been thinking Aerospace throughout HS, but then I just lost interest. Now I'm just looking around really.

In that case, what does the freshman course load look like?

There is a list in the academics section (summary of curriculum pg 71) of the AF course catalog

When raimius gets back he can vouch, he is a military history major I believe.

What was the question?

I considered history when I switched majors last month but decided to switch to political science instead because of what it offered that history did not: if you're interested, send me a message and I'll let you know what thoughts went into that.

Military History is one of the best majors at the Academy. I am a bit biased, because I taught there for a number of years. I was also one of the most active academic advisors. Send me a message if you'd like to know more.

I am a Mil History major. I can't comment too well, at this time, because I am only in one majors course (330-"Historigraphy and methodology" aka the research paper class).

As far as jobs, pretty much everything except engineering, hardcore medical, and test pilot jobs are open.

Mil History here too! Yeah, I have to wait till next spring to take His 330, raimius. Like has been said, you can have a Mil History degree and still pursue most jobs in the Operational AF.

There really is no major that doesn't allow you to pursue the "majority" of AF jobs (pilot, navigator, WSO, space, personnel, logistics, communications, etc.). The thing you should look at if you're worried about career is what do certain majors offer that other's don't. An obvious example is that with an engineering degree you can be an engineer. Can't do that with SocSci or Econ.

Ditch history, do bio. ;)

Or physics. You won't have to cut anything open. And you get to play with electricity and throw balls and ****.

yeah I worked hard enough to get a B in 215. I don't want to major in it...and that's still the relatively easy stuff! Personally, I don't like how the physics dept. runs things. I hate curved classes.
