I've received offers from these in subject. Could you share some thoughts/experience in regard to selected universities/MScs? I know, Edinburgh is rated better, but I like idea of going to HK. On the other hand, I live in europe, so it'd easier and fund-wise to go for Edinburgh.

Thanks.

@sebastian- i did my A levels from a school in England and i know the system very well…
where are you from??
I am considered as an overseas student ( the ridiculous fees…ahah:) ) so i have decided to go most probably to HKUST for my degree…
Coming to edinburgh ,I personally dont rate it very highly and even if you look at the rankings, it is quite low…In the UK,edinburgh is considered a good university but no way is it an outstanding university comparable to Oxbridge,ICL,UCL etc especially for Engineering/IT…
HKUST is pretty reputed…After all it is 26th in the rankings for Eng/IT and that is outstanding for a uni that is only 20 yrs old…I have been doing a lot of research on Universities here in England and abroad as i am on a gap year,(Boredom …ahaha) .
so if you need any info,i can help you out…
I have an offer from Imperial so i am bit hesitant to let it go but the immense cost makes me want to do so.
since you get the subsidised fees, you have a lot more to think about…Hope this helps…
cheers!!!

PS: are you actually going to do a Postgraduate degree ie Masters?? (Msc)

I can tell you that Anand78 is probably basing his opinion on international rankings (which can be notoriously misleading). Edinburgh is a top 5 university for Computer Science within the UK (definitely above UCL, probably at the same level as Imperial). In fact it has the biggest computing research group in the UK.

It’s difficult to rate the university overall, but I’ll agree that it’s overall reputation
is currently not as good as UCL. Which is curious, as the typical UCL student has the same grades as a typical student studying at Edinburgh. (This probably due to the oh-so dreaded rankings which take into subjective statistics as “Student Satisfaction” into account)

Seeing as you are European, its wiser to go to a university that is more well recognised within Europe. Not to mention, it’s cheaper (as you stated). However, if you really really really love Hong Kong then you should go there. Bare in mind, Edinburgh is also an amazing beautiful city too :)

well actually i live in England and go to school here…
This is the general opinion of the students and teachers here…
Edinburgh being in scotland might have something to do with it i guess…
