Hmm...Should I do it???

Right now I'm a freshman in High School taking Algebra II. I took it as an 8th grader, but we didn't get far enough in the book for many to go to Geometry. I have about a B in the class. I know I can get an A but I'm really just procrastinating and then trying to balance out with Honors Biology. I was thinking about doubling up and taking Honors Geometry Planes and Solids as well. There are many benefits and a couple of consequences in doing so.

If I take it and Pass:

I will complete my school's Honor/A.P. curriculum(A.P. Calc and A.P. Statistics, and a few other electives).

Actually, if I do this, the first benefit won't even be an option anymore. I'm applying to imsa(IL Math and Science Academy) and this will 'improve' my chances of acceptance.

It will also help my SAT score because I HAVE to take them in the winter/spring for admission to IMSA.

If I'm accepted to IMSA(notice how it all ties together lol), then taking Geometryn will hopefully help me on the placement exam there and I won't have to take it again.

Also, if I don't go to IMSA then taking and getting an A in Geometry will put me ahead of EVERYONE(well except about two people) in the freshman class because I will be taking the most weighted classes.

There are also a precaution...

In the case that I don't do well, I might have to take the class pass/fail and not have it factored into my g.p.a. or drop the class altogether.

Looks like you haven't got much going against you, so yeah, I'd take it :) Good luck.

If you take Geometry and get out of that class through the entrance exam, it'll save you a LOT of headaches, so I hear.

You're taking Algebra II before Geometry?

I tested into highest math when I matriculated into my high school so I took geometry freshman year. It was just how it all worked in the math system there. By the time I was supposed to take the SAT I had forgotten everything from Algebra I and Geometry and Algebra II that I had learned from 8th to 10th grade.

It sounds like you should go for it.

So.. basically geometry is good for you. Just so you know, I don't remember the IMSA placement test having a great deal of geometry.
