I'm a hobby nut. Classic film, cooking, geography (I even stare at Google Earth for hours)...

I want colleges to know that I am passionate about these hobbies, especially because they are the types of hobbies I think colleges would admire (I'm not so sure World of Warcraft, or whatever it's called, should go on an app, but classic film should).

but I don't want to make that big a deal over them. If I place them all as one EC on my commonapp like this

Activity: Other Club/Activity Hobbies/interests include geography, classic film...

That looks fine. You could go into a bit of detail in the Additional Info section if there's no room. They don't need an incredibly detailed explanation of your hobbies. Keep in mind that colleges don't need to know every single one of your interests.

Yeah. I have so many stupid hobbies (collecting old baseball scorecards, anyone? golf course architecture, anyone?) if I go into detail, they'll probably kill themselves. Thanks guys.

i squished two of my ECs on one line so i could put creative writing as my last hobby. i have no idea what to put for hours, though--i just write whenever i have time. that might mean 2 hours a night for one week and then nothing for a month. the hrs p/week box is kind of confusing me.

I'll just take the average. One line, naming three hobbies (cooking, classic film, geography/travel), and eight hours a week, which is about right (I watch two classic films a week, which is already four or five hours).

Okay, I'm applying to a few Ivy Leagues and other high-ranked colleges, however, I'm not exactly the typical high academic student. For example, I'm really into hip-hop dancing, breakdancing, b-boying, etc. but I don't know if I how I should put that in my hobbies. Not sure the admissions officers will approve of the slang terms (cause it seems that breakdancing isn't even an official term). In addition, I skateboard a lot and I won 2nd place at a local skate competition plus I do demos downtown and stuff, but I'm not sure about that either, since i think skateboarding is kind of an activity that is frowned upon. Skiing is also a big part of my life but I do trick skiing (new school, freestyle, you get the point), and I don't know if I should just put "skiing" or "freestyle skiing"

i'm also curious about some hobbies that i consider myself to be very passionate about.
i go snowboarding every weekend in the winter and play guitar in a band with a couple classmates. should these be mentioned?
will this give them i'm a just a ski bum whose in a punk band or will it give a positive impression that i like to do things other than just schoolwork and can maintain my schoolwork while still pursuing these hobbies?
