I was wondering if there was any possible chance that an applicant would get turned away for not taking the required math course outlined in the seven course pattern (english comp, math, and four courses in at least two fields of ge subjects-not the complete igetc) until the very last spring semester at a community college prior to prospective transfer?

Sure, it is more favorable to have it done by the time of the application, but would an applicant be possibly denied or dramatically less considered for not having it done at the time? (assuming the applicant already has a really competivetive GPA and most prereqs done for a less impacted major)

I currently have all of the 7 course pattern completed except the math.
In fact, I just need the math and bio to have the complete igetc certified.

But being that the math course within the seven course pattern is considered crucial, is there any leniency for holding it back until the end?

It shouldn't hold you back but it is preferable for you to have the math requirment complete. If your academic history is strong it shouldnt pose as that big of a problem. Why dont you call the school your applying to and ask?

I've never read anywhere that an applicant would be "possibly denied" or "dramatically less considered" if they don't have the math requirement done prior to spring in the case you mention. No one else here has ever read it from a legit source either (nor heard it for that matter).

I wouldn't even go as far as saying "sure, it is more favorable if done by the time of the application." You're making an assumption when you say that. They don't single out math during the admission process.

The UC system admits you on a conditional basis. This means if you get accepted you still have to uphold your end of the bargain and maintain excellent grades. If you are accepted, they believe that you can and will do this (however, some on this forum weren't able to for various reasons last year).

Anyway, I finished mine up the spring prior and I'm enjoying my time at Cal right now. Good luck to you.
