Hollins University !

PLEASE HELP!!!

Any information would be much welcomed.

Got an outstanding FinAid package, but don't know enough about the area and the grad placement.

Looking into Poli Sci/ IR/ Creative writing.

Coming from a Los Angeles background.

Thanks!

I have two friends at Hollins, one studying English and art history and one studying theater and anthropology. They absolutely love it! Apparently the student body is very outgoing and friendly, and there seems to be a lot of interaction with VMI. The surrounding area is very nice, although a bit quiet if you're from LA. It has a very good reputation for creative writing.

Hollins has great placement and a tight-knit alumni network. One of my friends was able to secure an internship at the Cleveland Museum of Art after her freshman year due to Hollins connections. I was talking to a couple of junior art history majors today who were sweating about the competition of getting such an internship (900+ applicants)!

Have you read about Tinker Day? :)

Thank you. I do know about Tinker Day. The school looks like it could be fun, but will it be a good education? Am I better going to a CC as a scholar and then attending a top school?

Hollins is a very respectable college, well known for their creative writing. Not sure about the other majors.

Hollins may not be as well known its peers to the north (i.e. the former seven sisters), but it's a fine school and I think you'd get a good education there. You will have lots of one-on-one interaction with professors.

We've spoken before and you know how much I love Hollins :) I think the education you get is what you make of it, no matter where you go. Really. If you are proactive and make it known that you really care about your education, you will be successful no matter what school you go to. It really depends on the student. Hollins is also 3-4 hours away from DC and since there's J-term, you can intern there intensively for the entire month of January ;)

Seriously, I've fallen absolutely in love with it. Since we've spoken, I've been accepted at Bryn Mawr (my other top choice) and I'm seriously having the most difficult time deciding. Even though Bryn Mawr is the bigger name and suits me better, Hollins has a lot to offer.

I'm always around if you want to PM me and so is Emily (TheatreChic). I can also help you touch base with other current students and alums via LJ, if you want. I'm glad you're seriously considering Hollins because Hollins is amazing :D
