Yes, but @kuopoo , this is the first year they’ve only accepted what makes up an average class. Usually they accept about 2000+ and only 800ish choose to attend
Did the letter actually say they only accepted 815 students? That seems absolutely impossible to me. Harvard doesn’t accept the number of seats it’s looking to fill I’m sure Holy Cross doesn’t either.
@suzyQ7 this was in my sons waitlisted letter.
‘The selection process for admission to Holy Cross is highly competitive. This year the Committee’s task was to select a class of 815 students from nearly 7,200 applicants. Many factors are weighed in the evaluation of candidates, and the Committee reviewed each application several times before reaching a final decision. I can assure you that your application was considered carefully by the staff.’
there is no way they could’ve accepted a lot more than 815 if that is all they were looking to fill which is why i think they couldn’t have accepted a ton more. i understand that may not be how it is calculated but to think realistically you can’t accepted 2,000 when you only have 815 spots
^Exactly - they are filling a class of 815, which means they accepted much more than double that.
Thank you.
Last year they admitted 2681 for a class of 868 freshman (yield of 32%):

Congrats to all admitted!
Does anyone know when the Bean Scholarships for classics are announced?
Last year 345 seats were spoken for by early decision applicants. So the slots available for regular decision this year were a lot less than the 815 ideal class size. Tough admit these days.
Congratulations to all accepted. HC is a fabulous school!
@Suz65203 I don’t know when they first notify, but last year DS was notified in late March that he was a finalist who would be offered the scholarship if the current recipient declined. The letter came directly from the Dept. of Classics, not from admissions.
D accepted with what looks to be the standard 10,000 merit. 35ACT 4.2 GPA, mostly 5’s on her AP tests, but not a lot of EC’s. So at roughly 57,000 for first year costs her spot will be open for a waitlisted student;). Good luck to all those attending!
Couple friends of mine and I received the same acceptance letter that you describe.
I was waitlisted, 4.44 GPA, 33 ACT, I didn’t interview, tour, or answer optional supplements because I wasn’t considering it too seriously and I decided to apply really close to the deadline. Hopefully that is the main reason and I might decide to stay on depending how the next week goes.
@suzyQ7 how did you child fair in the admissions process?
I’m very curious - did anyone’s letter differentiate between need based vs merit scholarship?
accepted, 4.0 weighted GPA, 1450 SAT. did an interview and wrote optional supplements. as someone who has visited the campus before, I would say the people there are very friendly and welcoming!! transporation is easy (peter pan bus station is just a 5 min drive from campus), and the school itself is very nice!
Actually I think I need to call them about the financial aid package. If my daughter’s “Holy Cross Scholarship” is a merit scholarship rather than need based then it will not decrease when her brother graduates from college and our EFC decreases…
Is this what others accepted letters say?
Just wondering.
Congratulations! I am delighted to inform you that you have been admitted to the College of the Holy Cross. Your application was selected from a pool of nearly 7,200 students. You should be very proud of this accomplishment, given the intense competition applicants faced this year. The Admission Committee was thoroughly impressed by your strong and consistent record of top academic achievement and your genuine intellectual curiosity, which were praised time and again by your teachers and counselors. Your extracurricular accomplishments reveal your commitment to the ideals of service, compassion, and personal integrity which are the foundations of the Holy Cross mission, and a common trait among members of the Holy Cross family.
You have distinguished yourself in your school and community as a top scholar, a model citizen, and a leader. We are impressed with the achievements and accolades you have diligently earned, and are confident that you will make the most of the gifts and opportunities with which you have been blessed.
Congratulations @ohhibuddy
Sounds like you demonstrated interest and had awesome stats- those are the students they want.
yes!
S accepted with $10k/yr. 4.5 wgpa 1500 SAT (1 sitting). 10 APs, 12 Honors level courses. NHS officer, WLHS, 3yr team captain, Student Govt, Debate & lots of volunteer work. He interviewed in August & answered the “optional” questions. We also submitted the parent letter of support. HC is very competitive especially in the RD round & they place a lot of weight on demonstrated interest. They don’t typically award much in terms of merit so this was a surprise. Congratulations to all who were accepted, it’s a fantastic school!
Accepted with $59k a year
