University of Florida.

My son was accepted into all colleges he applied for: Princeton (SCEA), Duke, Rutgers, UNC-Chapel Hill, North Carolina State Univ. We are from NJ but are moving to NC soon, so that is one reason why he applied in both of these states.

He was a Finalist for the Park Scholarship at NCSU (full ride for 4 years), but he turned down the interview weekend because the program there was the least strong of all the schools he applied to.

He was awarded the Robertson Scholarship at UNC-Chapel/Duke, and that is where he has decided to go. It was really hard to turn down Princeton as he grew up in the town and loves the university, but he didn’t want to take on debt to go there.

The Robertson provides tuition, room, board and fees for 4 years along with funding for 3 summers and up to 2 semesters abroad. It is also highly focused on leadership and will include mentoring and strong connections with scholars in his field. He will matriculate from UNC but is required to take courses at Duke and live there for one semester. He is considering pursuing two majors, one at UNC and one at Duke. As you can see, the Robertson program strongly encourages collaboration between the two nearby universities and then from there all over the world.

We are happy that he chose the option near where we will be living in part because of being able to see him more easily in the coming year. Homeschooling did make us a close-knit family!

SmileAMile, congratulations! And what a special treat to have your son in the same state. I agree, homeschooling did more for our family life than I ever dreamed.

:)

Congratulations, SmileAMile! What an amazing deal that the Robertson scholarship is providing! And to be close to your son is something to treasure. I am really excited for him and you! You son sounds very wise to avoid debt.

We have a friend whose son chose a full ride at WUSTL over taking on debt at MIT. It’s definitely a win-win situation for your family and her family. :-)

These past two weeks with the bombings, the shooting, and all the events in Boston and at MIT definitely were faith building since we are 3000 miles away from our son. I am so grateful for facebook, phones, and skype!

My daughter was accepted at Swarthmore (with a very nice aid package), Arcadia (Honors College, great merit aid), Ursinus (Merit Aid) and in Scotland - University of Glasgow and University of Aberdeen (admitted to 2nd year Gaelic).

Very hard decision for her but she is following her passion, turning down Swat and saying yes to Glasgow. System is a bit different over there so things are not yet final. She could only apply for a merit scholarship after saying yes. If that scholarship doesn’t come through then Uni of Aberdeen is still a possibility.

Congrats to all; it’s great to see! laqu997, I was interested to see your “Northwestern during the interview asked why she didn’t do AP language (she has 10 other APs!)”. My d, currently a sophomore, has Bio, Calc BC and Psych from last year, doing Physics C Mechanics, Micro and Macro this year, and planning on USH, Art History, Stats, Chemistry, Eng Lit and Music Theory next year. So she’d have 12, but only one history and one english, not her faves or strong suits, and we were wondering if that would raise any eyebrows. She’s planning on double-majoring in math and studio art, applying to highly selective univs and LACs.

I was accepted to the following schools: Ithaca College (sax performance), University of Iowa (sax performance), University of Rochester (English literature), and the Eastman School of Music (sax performance and music theory).

Homeschooling truly has been the best thing for me - both personally and academically. Kudos to my parents for putting up with me all these years!

Congratulations to everyone - such great news!
We homeschooled our daughter from a young age through high school, and for college, she just applied to a few schools. She was accepted to Brown and Duke among others, and accepted a Robertson Scholarship from Duke. Including SmileAMile’s son, that’s 3 homeschoolers that I know of who were awarded Robertson Scholarships at either UNC-CH or Duke this year (there may be more). Pretty cool!

Blueguillespie, I sent you a private message. Great to hear about other homeschooled Roberstons!

Interesting addition. Son spent Freshman year in Anderson University in SC, and when I picked him up on his last day, he announced he wanted to transfer to a state college (GA). He had NO problem getting accepted to Middle Georgia State with average SAT’s and a homeschool portfolio, and grades from his prev. college. If we’d known a state school would have taken him, we would have applied there from the beginning and saved 10 grand.

Colgate University is friendly to homeschoolers.

Son, homeschooled since the beginning, graduated last year and was accepted at Berklee School of Music and University of Denver, Lamont School of Music where he was offered a very nice scholarship. He decided (mostly for financial reasons) to take a gap year and deferred for Berklee and this year was also accepted to North Texas, University of Southern Maine, and Middle Tennessee State. Good scholarships to USM and MTSU. He decided on MTSU and will be a double major in Jazz and Music Industry.
Whew — now for the daughter! Senior year! She has 20 colleges on her primary list…
