Homecoming/Parents Weekend & Friday Night on the Streets

Arrgh. We have Sat. night booked, but Friday night every hotel, motel and park bench is completely full, while the Southwest Airline tickets rise and rise. Anyone have a spot for two parents of a freshman -- couch, floor, partying, whatever, we are left wing and we don't care! Hearing of a clean hotel room that's available would be nice as well. . . !

Have you considered booking a room for one night in the Embarcadero district in San Francisco? We stayed at the Hyatt there which is steps away from the BART station. If you have a car, it is only about a 12-15 minute drive over the bridge to Berkeley. You can also check for downtown Oakland hotels- there is one near the stadium or BB arena that is close to a BART station as well. Sometimes the Durant has a wait list, as does the Doubletree Marina for big weekends. Check the online reservations... I have been able to get rooms through the main Doubletree site for the marina after being told by the local front desk that they had no rooms. There is always Craig's list for couch surfing! Book your flights... you will find a place to stay! Good Luck.

Heck yeah... stay in San Fran and take the BART into Berkeley.

I tried SF, but all our usual spots are booked. I did see a vacancy at Inn at University (yes, I know the motels on University are questionable, at best), but this place seems to be a remodel and is cheap. Anyone hear anything good, bad, or indifferent? As long as it isn't a place one would use "by the hour", if you catch my drift, I'm thinking of booking there for the night. Frankly, it couldn't be worse than the Durant (or could it?!). I know, the Durant is historic and great location, and loved the Bar, but lack of a/c and a questionable overhead fan was really uncomfortable, although on the upside, great internet service.
