My son received notification in today's mail that he has been accepted to Mary Washington under the Honors Admission program.

Nice big envelope with folder inside that has the acceptance letter and additional information on what an Honors Admission means and sign-up for March Campus visit.

Applicants must accept admission offer by 1 May.

I think I didn't get in. I sent my application a few days before Christmas, and I didn't hear from MW since then. Does this indicate that I'm not accepted?

I recieved that folder today too! It was a total surprise, but a great one. I was expecting the envelope to contain another worthless "viewbook"...but it turns out that it was an early acceptance! Yay! At least I know that I have somewhere to go next year! Still deliberating since I applied to 17 schools, but now UMW is definitely a top option. Any information on this Honors Program would be appreciated! Thank You in advance! Lauren

College Dad is right, it's basically an early notification plus an extra visit in March. My S's gf got in on Honors Admission but he had to wait until regular notification and he got in at that time. There isn't an "Honors Program" at UMW, in terms of specific courses for honors. Still, UMW is very generous with AP credit, often getting gen ed. requirements out of the way with a 3 or higher on AP exams. S. had something like 23 hours going in based on his AP scores, and he was reg. admissions for them. Just because you haven't heard doesn't mean you're not in. Have faith!

This is 100% true...but dont you guys forget about IB Credit too! My brother got something like 30 credit hours for his IB courses...He is going to graduate a year early from UMW...and he absolutely LOVES it...hes on the JRB, hes an RA being only a sophomore, and is going to be head RA next year as a junior (senior standing). The IB credits plus 2-3 easy courses taken over the summer at a local community college is allowing him to graduate an entire year early.

I got the packet on Jan. 28 too and I sent in my application on Jan 15. I also got a postcard from them about a week earlier saying my app was incomplete (no transcript but it was just a mix up). I was shocked I go it that early considering I applied not even two weeks before then.

i sent in my application january 31st and i got my acceptance yesterday...its my third choice, but i'm pretty excited not to be relegated to JMU (my safety)

Does anyone know when they let honors admission candidates know about merit-based scholarships? Are there interviews at all for them? Any other opinions/info on Mary wash?

Yes! I got my honors packet today! It's the first college that I've gotten in to, so it was such a relief to finally be in SOMEHWERE. :-D And because they let me in early, UMW is definitely ranked higher in my book now! Who's going down on the Saturday tour day?

congrats! I got in honors too..yay! Do you know anything about when they send out notification about merit-based scholarships/Washington Scholarships? ...congrats to everyone who got in recently and good luck to all!!

That's alright..a lot of people I know have been finding out at different times. Good luck to everyone!! Has anyone here that either goes to UMW or was accepted or went there or something been to UMW's 'Showcase' March day for Honors admitted students? I was wondering what their take on it was? Also... does anyone have an idea when merit-based scholarships are going to be notified to people??

Yes! I got an acceptance to Mary Washington under the Honors Admission program. I really liked the folder with the acceptance letter, a very nice certificate, and additional information. Now I'm in somewhere.
