Honors Admissions and Regulars Admissions

Are you accepted into UT before the honors program? Or is it entirely separate? Because I recently received my rejection letter from the HP, but I have not heard from regular admissions yet.

It depends. Only Plan II and BHP have early admissions periods.

The admissions for the programs are completely separate. It's quite possible to be accepted into Plan II (because you are a great writer and have good ECs) but get rejected by UT as a whole (normally because of a low class rank).

I received my UT acceptance first, but I am top ten percent so I was guaranteed admission.

Funnily enough, I didn't even submit my essays until the Nov. 1 early deadline for Plan II, yet was still accepted by UT in October. They apparently weren't supposed to (because you are only guaranteed Top Ten admission if you submit a complete application by Feb 1) but somehow overlooked the fact.

If you aren't top ten or are out-of-state, you probably won't hear back from UT until March or April.

Suppose you apply to the Liberal Arts Honors Program.

If you get a UT acceptance letter, will it tell you if you were accepted to the honors program at the same time? For Ohio State, my daughter got her acceptance and then about a week later she got a separate letter of acceptance for the honors program.

If I remember correctly, the LAH office sends a separate letter in the mail and you don't find out on-line.

You will NOT get in to Honors at the same time. LAH will release all decisions in March after they've received all applications. Many people who get in to LAH are top ten kids who hear back within days of making their application.

I'm not 100% sure because I withdrew my application after getting in to Plan II, but that's how I think it goes.
