Question: My D is signed up for Preview early July. As I understand it, the UF classes are filled on a first come first serve basis - so, things may be a bit picked over by July.

Just spoke to a parent today who's daughter was in UF Honors program and she told me that honors advisors may suggest upper level classes to these students as courses become limited. Her daughter wound up with basically all seniors in a class when she was a freshman. That was very concerning to me - for obvious reasons. This would not be a preferred first term course selection from my perspective as a parent and former UF student. Just curious what others' experiences are with regards to registration for Fall term.

I’d be interested in other anecdotal info regarding this, too. I also have a daughter signing up in mid-June. (honors and engineering) And, she’ll be coming in with tons of AP credit available to her (4’s & 5’s on all exams; 11 total). As the OP stated I don’t want her pushed into classes she shouldn’t be in, and I’m concerned that she’ll take their advice as “gospel,” instead of with the grain of salt it should be. Will do lots of talking to before she attends, but, in the end, she’ll obviously be relying on their advice quite heavily.

Maybe things have changed since my daughter registered at preview 4 years ago, but she had the opposite experience. Despite bringing in the max AP and dual enrollment credits allowed, she was discouraged from taking the courses she wanted to because the advisor thought it was too difficult for an incoming freshman. My daughter went along but always regretted it.

My experience is more like Floridamom2. They kept suggesting that I take lower level classes than I wanted to take. I knew my strengths and came to Preview with the schedule I wanted to have. Advisers are there to give their opinions but I knew what I wanted.

As for the classes being filled, I always heard they tried to evenly disperse the classes among the different dates. Its probably possible that certain sections get filled up earlier than other, but there should be other sections open. <—This relates to majority freshmen classes. Classes with 1 or 2 sections might only have a few seats left by the time preview comes around.

The information they give you about preview states that it holds an equal amount of seats in each class for each preview section, so I would think that the only time seats might be filled up by the time you get there is if returning students have already taken them.
