Honors and Competitive Scholarships

Has UKy started sending out honors college acceptances and interview invites for the competitive scholarships?

I’m guessing it’s a no since no one has responded.

@itsgettingreal17

I seem to recall D16’s Honors acceptance coming after regular acceptance, but before Xmas.

That is not much help! If you search around the forum here, you might find discussions of the competitive scholarships.

I got my acceptance to U of Kentucky last week, and a couple days later got an email from the honors college saying that they were reviewing my application and I would get a decision in two to three weeks. I don’t know about competitive scholarships.

@rose621 D received that email but hasn’t been admitted yet.

Update: D received admissions decision yesterday and honors this morning. If and when she gets merit invite, I’ll update again.

How long did it take to get an answer ?

@Karennorth Not long at all. D’s application was complete less than 2 weeks ago. She received an email late last week that the honors college had received her application and she would get a decision in 2-3 weeks. Yesterday she received her admission letter via snail mail (dated day before email from honors college) and this morning received an email that she was admitted to the honors college (global scholars pathway).

So they seem to be getting through applications quickly.

@itsgettingreal17 I just finished my honors college essay but I am not super proud of it. I have Bene working on the idea for a while but I just couldn’t find something that work well. I know they put a lot of emphasis on the essays and I just don’t think ,ine will make the cut :frowning:

My daughter got her honors college acceptance email and scholarship interview today. They should be trickling in soon!

@overwhelmedma Did she already have her interview or just got the call? D is scheduled for interview during Thanksgiving break. She got the call last week. Honors she heard from a week to a couple of weeks ago, iirc.

@itsgettingreal17 Just got the call and is interviewing that same week. She got an email a couple weeks ago saying her honors app was being reviewed then got the acceptance email today.

Congratulation your D’s interview invite. Is the interview specifically for Singletary or for Presidential Scholarship or for both?

@oceanbleeze17 It is for the Singletary. But I believe they can award the Presidential instead.

@itsgettingreal17 Would you mind sharing your D’s stats? Also, is she an in state or OOS applicant?

Just info to share…because I was worried because of time frames that were described here. S17 entered application 10/29, received Lester Scholar offer 11/28, Admission acceptance 12/2, Provost offer 12/6, Honors email 12/9. We were sweating (and still sweating National Merit Finalist) because we didn’t know when to expect dominoes to fall. Still hoping for Presidential/Patterson. Best wishes to all!

I was accepted one like Nov. 4 and I still haven’t received anything. I’m a strong candidate too, so I’m freaking out a little bit.

My son received (OOS) the ‘Kentucky Heritage Scholarship letter’ today in the mail. (40K award)

  1. Applied on Dec 1st. Wrote ALL the required essays in the application.
  2. Also got an email stating that his application has been redirected to “pool of general Honors admission”. This was sent to quite a few people.
  3. His GPA / ACT is within the range for Presidential./ Provist etc…
I see a few folks talking about interview invites for additional scholarship. So not sure if the interviews happened or my son still has a chance?.

I think he still has a chance.

My son applied 11/7 and was accepted shortly after. His application was submitted to the honors college 11/21. Have not heard from honors nor has he heard about merit money. He’s out of state. Do you think there is still a chance for merit money or honors? It seems like merit money comes shortly after the acceptance.
