I’m going into my junior year of high school and I’m considering dropping french. My teacher isn’t great, I don’t like the subject at all and I’m so far from fluency that one more year won’t change that. I have three language credits, which is enough for my high school but I was wondering if the honors college would prefer I have four. If I drop it, I’ll take APStats instead, which I think is more productive, but I was wondering if anyone who got into the Rutgers honors college would share how many language credits they had and whether this is a good choice. I know for SAS they only require two but I wouldn’t be surprised if the honors college has higher expectations. Thank you so much!
I am in the SOE honors college so there is no language requirement but you do need language proficiency to an intermediate level in order to remain in SAS honors. For SAS in general there is a world culture requirement but not specifically a language requirement.
Is language proficiency needed in high school or is that a requirement for while you’re in college?
Also, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to answer my question. I really appreciate it!
@sar104 That’s a requirement for college, not hs IF you get into honors program or college for SAS or RBS. It is possible to test into intermediate on the placement exam so you don’t need to take an actual class if you already have satisfactory mastery of a language from hs. In this scenario you just need a culture course
Good to know. Thank you so much!
