Any advice/experience on the Honors program at JMU? Daughter applied regular decision and does not know that much of the school. She received an email today, requesting her to apply for the honors programs. Any thoughts?

go for it. It is awesome

go for it!!
i LOVE being in the honors program :)

I don't mean to take over momray's thread, but about how much time does the honors college take out of your average semester? I'm interested in doing ROTC so I was just wondering if I could handle both honors and ROTC. Thanks.

Honors classes don't really take up more time than your average classes do. They are just smaller and usually have one or two extra assignments that you have to do. I honestly don't really notice a difference in difficulty between the honors and the non-honors classes. There is actually a guy in the honors learning community with me who is doing ROTC and he doesn't think that honors is hurting his ability and time for ROTC. Overall, the small classes and registration priority far outweigh any of the few negative aspects of the honors program.

momray - have her do it. And if she does not get in as an incoming freshman, she should not despair. The honors program apparently reviews the status of applicants who did not get in after they receive 1st semester freshman grades and offer what seems to be the same academic program. S had to scramble when he got back to campus to switch his schedule; he tells me his honors class is much more work than the regular one but he's really enjoying it. Good luck!
