Honors Evening?

Is anyone going to the honor’s evening on April 14? Do you think it’s necessary to go down there? I live in Massachusetts. Sure, it would be great to go down, but that’s a lot of money for just one night.

Are they charging?

No, but flying down and finding a place to stay will be expensive. Anyone have thoughts about this?

I’m considering it- not for the “honors evening” as much as for the overnight opportunity. You get to meet the kind of kids that are in the honors program there, which is nice. I’m sure there’s a fair bit of propaganda to go along with the actual “evening” bit beyond going to classes and staying overnight. Wish the overnight wasn’t Thursday-Friday, because my school requires seniors to make up every day they miss in the fourth quarter.

Not entirely sold on Catholic itself- it’s probably my last-choice school at this point, so I’m not sure if it’d be worth it for me to visit again. But if you’re seriously considering Catholic, it looks like a great opportunity to actually see the school in session and meet real students (not perky tour guides).

Still waiting to see if I’ll be interviewed for the full tuition scholarship, but if I am, I might go.

Hi, I was wandering if you got an interview for CUA’s full scholarship and if so how you made out? Also would you mind sharing your adacemic info, SATs, ACT, GPA scores etc. Curious what Catholic requires for there biggest scholarship. Thanks.

Hi, Did you get an intereview?

Blang84 - You really should go to the honors weekend. I am a CUA alumnus. This is a very good (but not great) school with some veru strong plusses and a few minuses (neighborhood, some mediocre departments, non-diverse student body) and you should really spend some time there before you make a major financial commitment.

jackuk…can you elaborate on negatives…what programs/depts are weak, party atmosphere, when did you graduate? thanks. Any info on math or education depts?

I graduated in 1981, but lived in the area until 1993 and went back for homecoming, etc until 1993. The Arts and Science Department is generally weak with the exception of the politics department. Economics and business are particularly weak as this is where most of the athletes major. It is a pretty good party school, although people drink way too much which impacts negatively on the school’s academic reputation.
